I haven’t had any available in about 9 months or so. Nobody has one that I know of. I will have them available next month.

There is a company called "No Politics Racing" making some great diffs. Here is their web site:

https://nopoliticsracing.com

I think Bill Rader has them in stock:

Yes! I have checked out no politics racing, my mechanic Tom Amon gave me their info and also mentioned Guards. I read all the threads on pelican to educate myself. I didn’t look up any info on; No politics LSD but visually they look very similar, price wise the no politics is coming in at $3200. Price of chicken has gone up!

Also I sent bill an email. So thanks, can always wait a month too.

Thank you both! Anyone of you drive a 3.0 915 with an lsd?

The look alike is on purpose. It’s a tale as old as capitalism. Paul Guard sold me his company 13 years ago and retired. His non-compete has expired, and this is his new company. If you find his ad in the new issue of Excellence it’s the same as he used to run back in 2009 as far as font, layout, everything really. It’s a copy cat product designed to cause market confusion.

My 915/930 LSDs are $3k.

Wow.

Was there only a non-compete? Nothing giving you rights to the design of the LSDs?

I’m not really inclined to discuss the finer details of my personal business online. I’ll acknowledge the elephant in the room and say what it is. But that’s as far as I go.

An LSD isn’t really something that is patentable this many years into their existence. There are companies like OBX who owe their whole existence to copying other company’s designs. It’s the world that we live in where copycats abound.

@LeftyKeyClub or @djb25,

I would not hesitate to put a NPR diff in my car...even if it costs $200 more than Guard diff. Paul Guard is a legend and his nephew, Brandon, is fantastic to deal with.

I have noticed how responsive and accessible that Matt had been to this community over the years. I have been impressed that, as a business owner, he takes the time to provide advice and troubleshooting on transmission/differentials.He has certainly been engaged with our passion (so, I thank him for that).
I have no connection with either company, beyond having a 901 box that came with a Guards LSD that has been bulletproof.

Wavetrac is a $2K cost saving option with a lifetime warranty.

In a 160 HP 3.0L SC its all about straight braking, which the Wavetrac really excels @.

If you think you need more capability, go right ahead and get a locking plate design unit with the maintenance requirements.

I was under the impression the 81 sc came stock with about 200hp, with my mods I feel like I’m pushing 220/225. Running SSI’s and dual out dansk muffler, msd, on a rebuilt motor, expect to add some more hp in the future. While the options are limited .. it still sounds and drives really well, have had a spin out in the past and want that rear end to feel a little tighter entering and exiting corners.. I really drive my car, also I appreciate the recommendation and I will research the brand you have suggested, learning is always a good thing so thanks for that!

I’ve also gotten better at driving the rear engine cars haha, and that was about 16 yrs ago.. but I feel everyone needs at least one good back end coming out to know the dangers and edge of how and where to push the car.. at least for myself it taught me alot!

Well, the Wavetrac is a very good option. But to be clear, it goes to 100% lock up under braking, which is not always what you need or want. Traditional TBDs go to 0% lock -- open diff -- under braking, but Wavetrac has a trick in their design that instead locks the diff up. So you will not get the torque bias you would with a LSD like the Porsche ZF or GKN units, and on track you may not be happy trail braking.

Wavetrac has outstanding customer service. I've sent them two of their diffs this year for service in customer transmissions that have had failures in other parts of the transmission, asking them to check 'em over. In both cases, Wavetrac has replaced a few parts and sent them back, zero charge, quick turn-around.

As I've noted before, people unfortunately believe TBDs never need service, a perceived "pro" when compared with LSDs. Everything wears out with time, they will need service some day. The parts to service Porsche and Guard LSDs are easy to come by, not terribly expensive, and the work can be done "in the field." Cheers,
