Hi all,
I thought it would be a good time to check out my flapper boxes while I don't actually need them to work. I have been able to remove the left one without too much trouble apart from the fact I can't seperate the sensor for the auto heat or the actual control cable from the box. So now it is dangling in the wheel arch! ![]() The housing for the sensor riveted to the flapper box. Does the sensor unplug or unscrew from the housing or do I need to drill the rivetsand remove the whole thing? The control cable will not seperate from the flapper box. The adjustment nut is off but I cant get the cable free. Any idea's? I dont want to damage any of the parts if I can avoid it as the only problem seems to be some light rust on the box and its a bit stiff for the spring to fully return. If all alse fails can I undo the sensor and control cable at the auto control box end in the passenger compartment and then feed them through the car and out with the box? At least this way I can look at them on the bench and I can have the car back. Please help, wish I'd never started. ![]() Cheers Andy |

OK finally managed to find out a bit more....
So just incase anyone else might need to know one day... The sensor in the flapper box is fixed to its housing and the housing is riveted into the flapper box. So to remove it you have to drill the rivets. If you only want to renovate the box then you can remove the sensor plug from the heater control box between the seats, remove the plug from the wires and feed it through the bulhead. This will let you remove the box without disturbing the sensor. I found this in Bentley - 84-89 Carrera 3.2. Still not sure how to seperate the heater cable guide tubes from the box when they seem to be fused to each other. ![]() Thanks Andy Last edited by teardrop; 06-01-2003 at 11:01 PM.. |

What year 911 are you talking about? I'm doing my flapper boxes next week, and have an '83 911SC.

Mine is an 89 3.2 but I think the cable question applies to any year and the sensor to any year with auto heat.
If you have a sensor you'll know as soon as you look at the left flapper box. Cheers Andy |

Thanks - I don't have the auto heat on my '83. One headache avoided, at least
