Why vandalize??!!

My son took his '66 912 to his friend's graduation Friday night. He came home with a really sad expression on his face. He said in a very soft voice, "someone put a rock through my window." He wasn't even mad. He just couldn't understand why someone would consciously vandalize his car like that. He loves that car - even without the A/C in Houston weather. Needless to say, finding a rear quarter window for a '66 is not going to be easy. We cut out a piece of lexan for the time being and it came out really nice. I kidded him about how we're going to have to corner balance the car due to the weight diff between safety glass and lexan - he wasn't amused.

Anyway, I guess we'll live through it. It's just that vandalism doesn't serve any useful purpose. He doesn't even go to that school, so nobody knows him there. I gotta believe jealousy is the driving force here.

Craig

jealous kids...

that sucks...but at least it wasn't like the disgruntled employee thread that poured brake fluid on the boss 911 after getting fired...

glass is easier to replace then to get a new paint job!!

post a wanted ad in the classifieds, I am sure one will turn up pretty quickly

My passenger side front fender got keyed the first day I took my 911 to school. I didn't have any enemies at the time and was really pissed off. One night while I was at a school party and the kid who had done it had a few too many beers and spilled the beans. I threw a brick through his front windshield and we called it even.

I'm a firm believer in disproportionate retaliation. I would have given that kid a "permanent" reminder and then probably gone after his family.

Yeah, well I don't know how he explained to mommy why the front windshield of her almost new QX4 was completely destroyed, but he didn't f*ck with me or my car after that.

Did he say why he did it? My SC was badly keyed recently, and I'm curious about the mindset that has someone do this to a stranger's car.

It's called an inferiority complex, some people just can't handle it.

TimT - Hey i really appreciate that. That particular window is slightly curved in two directions. There's a place here in Houston that will cut auto glass - but only if it's flat. I tried about 10 different glass places and a few wrecking yards, but no luck. I'll email you off line and we can work something out.

Thanks again,

Craig

TimT, very gentlemanly of you.
You sir, get a tip of my hat.

People need good friends like that. And later it will come back to you in some way.

Zamirz,

I'm with Richard, I would have thrown his head through his windshield. Hit them back so damned hard they never even think of doing it again. I call it "Same to you, plus interest"

I once had my pristine BMW 535i keyed (fullly down one side) and, years later I still hold that grudge. You might be able to tell that I take this kind of thing very personally, no matter who does it or what their reason is. In this case, I knew who did it, but I couldn't prove it (still can't) but if I ever I see him again, I assure you, he'll get what's comin'... plus interest.

As 82SC said jealousy is the main motivation for this type of thing. Old or new a Porsche has an intrinsic value to people. One type of person says "hey, nice car, wish I could afford one" and another kind goes "I'll get this rich bastard for flaunting his wealth". You don't have to have a sports car either, a new car or an unusual car will also trigge the "Ill fix you up!" reaction in jealous types. Grady was spot on too it's definitely a sign of an inferiority complex. The type of person who does this kind of thing would rather deprive you of your suff than get off their lazy, complaining butts and get their own.
I'd also like to acknowlege TimT for his generosity.

I come from English stock.....so the old "remove the offending hand" is my vote!!
But I do like the phrase "disproportionate retaliation".

either way, looks like a nice little car.

A shame about the glass. Hope you find him and knock his ass out.

My 70 torino cobra just got keyed, I took it well but inside I want to kill the little bastard that did it. There's not much you can do but the thoughts that go through your mind are intense. There are so many punks out there, you just have to recognize that someday they will get theirs. And then there are the people like Tim that make you realize that there are some good folks still around.

I parked my 911 by the backstage gate, 25 ft from a security guard, that is to stay, at that gate, at a Phish concert, and I came out after the load out, to find my antenna bent into a question mark.Vandalism, jealousy at its finest.

Excellent TimT!

The whole situation is very sad. But like the old W.C. Fields bit about drunk/ugly:

In a few days your son's car will be fixed as if nothing ever happened.....

And in all likelihood the fellow who did this will never, ever, find lasting happiness.....

Petty terrorism is a way to make some noise about yourself to yourself. It affirms that you are alive. These types of people are the ones who hurt animals and evolve into bad spouses. They are losers.

They lack initiative and humility. They do deserve whatever you care to do to them, but since we are of a higher plane we can only pity the cesspool they make of their lives.

John
