Show me your shift knob/need ideas
Just swapped to a Rennshifter. I’m thinking a 917-style ebony swirl but I’d love to see what everyone else is doing these days. My interior is all black so I want something that pops but isn’t out of place.

Mine has the graphic from the 'no limits' autobahn sign. Made by Dave Mason.

G50 Knob
Any recommendations on who recovers G50 Knobs in original leather?
Starting winter projects |
I have the Momo Anatomico. Seems to work and matches my steering wheel.

Question for MrBonus: As a fellow J West shifter user, are our shift knobs unique or different from standard Porsche shift knobs due to different threads? Love your interior. BTW, I think your T is about 25 mi from my location - and in good hands, obviously. Nice project underway for sure!

Thank you! I'm excited to get the car back in a few weeks. |
This has been posted before. A shift knob purportedly one of a kind. It came installed from Werkes 1 to the original owner of our '86 M491 cab with a note:
"Cosi la tua mano tocchera sempre la qualita Italiana, E Ferrari" “So your hand will always touch Italian quality, E Ferrari” It is molded pebble grained rubber with a hard plastic bottom receptacle to accept shifter (915) and a Porsche emblem epoxy cast mounted in top. It has 3 finger grooves molded horizontally forward and is marked Made in Italy. In the previous post a few posters referenced similar pieces from late '80's early '90's sold aftermarket. No one has ever found a duplicate. We are unable to verify, though a photo of the original note is promised. Feel free to chime in! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672240590.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672240590.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672240590.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672240590.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672240590.jpg |

Where the RennShift differs from factory is the addition of internal threads on the end of the stick to accept a threaded stud. The factory is just a smooth center bore. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672244676.jpg 20 years ago when the RennShift was designed, there were a lot of aftermarket knobs with imperial threads and not much in the way of metric knobs. So the bore was threaded for 3/8"-24 to maximize the universal options. Last year, the RennShift thread was updated to M8-1.25 as the market for knobs has shifted heavily to metric. This thread also works better with our new line of factory/factory-style knobs converted to threaded stud for better retention with factory looks. A shim kit is included to clock the pattern with these knobs. *The very early 911 carried over the plain "light bulb-shaped" knob from the 356 with no shift pattern and 15mm-1.5 threads. You can find AMCO and similar knobs from that era which require the external threads on the shifter stick. We can thread the RennShift stick for this configuration on request. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672243808.jpg In response to the original post - here is a pic of the black RennShift with a 917 knob: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672243633.jpg James |
I'm partial to the 917 wood style shift knobs...

I went with the early stock 915 knob, all black with chrome shift pattern under epoxy. Surprisingly affordable. Your car is earlier, so maybe the 901 knob.
