I replaced all of the shifter bushings on my 80 SC about a week ago. Wow! What a difference. I had no idea about $20 or so could make a HUGE difference. I read about how this tranny shifts and thought it was supposed to be that way. Boy was I wrong!
Now every shift is much smoother and the shifter no longer feels like it is in neutral when I have it i gear Many Thanks to this board and our host. This place has been an invaluable resource for me in learning my now hobby! Next up is Swepco. Hmmm wonder what I can do after that

1)Short shift kit $135... 2)"grippier" shift knob than factory plastic garbage to improve hand palm feel (Momo $70) 3)new shift bag $50-75 4)adjust your clutch freeplay if you haven't done so already 5)deadpedal 6)bronze pedal cluster bushings (you might not notice a huge improvement here unless your plastic ones are going bad) 7)Sein Sytems shift kit to center shift lever in 3rd-4th neutral gate $135 or so... Hmmmm...the $$$ one can go through...

Well.. I have bronze bushings already so no additional $$ there.
I plan on adjusting the clutch sometime soon.. New shift knob and dead pedal sounds good... I can probably live without the rest for a while. Gotta keep a low profile on the appropriations for a while

Best fix I did (other than having JW rebuild the tranny) was replacing the engine and transmission mounts. Pretty cheap and amazing difference in shifting feel.

I forgot about the engine and tranny mounts! Thanks Gary!
That just may be my next fix

I did the sport mounts from Pelican. Much, much cheaper than buying the factory mounts from the dealer, and basically the same mount anyway...

Pelican offers "competition mounts" which are even cheaper than the sport mounts. Whats the difference? Can you just use the cheaper competiton mount set?
Competition Transmission Mount Set Set of 2 solid motor/transmission mounts for the Porsche 911. Mounting plates are laser cut from high strength steel, with lightening holes to reduce unwanted weight, these are then Tig welded to the spacer boss. The competition mounts are solid, offering no vibration dampening properties, essentially making the driveline connection to the chassis rigid. I think the sports use a urethane of some type for an isolation donut. Perhaps the sport mount may be a wiser choice for the street, but then again I've never used the solid mounts.

I see. I noticed that in the picture. Yeah, sport mounts would make more sense then...

If I remember correctly, I read that Our Hero Tyson recommended sport mounts on the engine and normal ones on the transmission. Don't quote me on this. May be worth searching or asking him.

hmmmmm I will have to remember this one. I will have to check and see how much vibration this would introduce.
Thanks!
