Belly Pan under fuel tank and steering rack

I set out on a mission to replace my fuel lines on my ‘73 Targa and move the fuel pump up front.

I decided to get an SC Tank because it has the recess that’s a perfect home for the Bosch Flow Through Fuel Pump.

After getting the pump situated, I decided to test fit the belly pan and noticed that because of that recess in the tank that accommodates the fuel pump, the belly pan doesn’t reach the tank.

Any suggestions to remedy this?

Very frustrating ... I had the same issue with an SC tank in my longhood and could not find anyone selling one that would fix this.

I modified my original pan by welding on about 4 inches and forming it to the tank.

pump/pan clearace

Hi, Quick, I just went through a bit of beta testing with Len, "Boxter GT", on this forum and he provided an excellent front pump mount for my 74.
I am not clear what your clearance problem is, but still would like to help :-)

I had previously moved the pump to the front with a bit of help from a fine mechanic/welder/fabricator/friend, but when restomoding the car, sought Len's help for new fuel lines/ pump mounting.

Here to help,
Chris

Len is providing the Pump, hose and tubing for my replacement project. He’s been incredibly helpful. We’re tackling pump mounting and hose routing. I was doing a test fit of the pump after some recent discussions with Len. Just for fun, I checked to see if the belly pan would clear the pump. That’s when I discovered the gap between the belly pan and the tank.

sorry for the huge photo - this is the skid plate for the early RS with a plastic tank and had the pump up front - I think this may work for you.

I looked into this. From what I could tell it would not work -- does not cover all the gap and I believe it steps down about 2" or so closer to the road for the lower RS tank. The SC doesn't have this step down.

Why worry about it. Lots of 911 running around without a belly pan at all.
