Stuck Brake Clevis Pin
So I'm trying to pull my pedal box to rebuild it and every fastener has come out easily and cleanly except this clevis. No amount of banging or prying can get it to move. I soaked it with PB Blaster but I haven't tried heat. I can't get my dremel up in there to cut it out. Any suggestions?

Is there still compression on the rod? Could be that the pin is worn and captured as if in a detent.
Maybe see if you can fit a small c-clamp with the screw side towards the clutch, fitted on a slight angle, as a press. Last edited by 917_Langheck; 01-01-2023 at 10:58 PM.. |

Looks like the pin is bent, stick something in the hole like a small Phillips screwdriver and work it back and forth see if you can spin it around

If it won’t budge cut it with a hacksaw blade removed from the frame wrap some tape for a grip.

Can you unscrew the rod from the clevis then remove the cluster? That’d allow you more space to work on removing the pin.

The rod is still under tension, not sure I can unscrew the ends. I may try that.

I tried the vice grips, nothing. It's welded in there.
I ended up removing the rod by unscrewing it. I'm questioning whether I even bother to replace the clevis since there's no play in the joint and getting it out will be a pain.

It just starts to strip the pin.

Definitely replace the pin while you have everything out. Something bent and jammed in the braking mechanism would give me the willies. I bet you could get something like this in place to pop the pin out now that you have the rest of the assembly out.

I've banged and twisted the stupid thing a ton and it's not budging. Might try the hacksaw method. I would hate to damage the clevis itself or the lever to the master cylinder while trying to extract the pin since it seems in perfect shape but it's a $10 part I suppose.

I wouldn't cut it. Silicone spray lubricant (WD40 doesn't count) plus some sort of ball joint separator like I linked (you can get smaller ones) and I bet that sucker will come right out.

How about freeing up the clevis by removing the rod from the clevis. You may get better range of motion and unbind the pin.
Cut the clevis where the blade meets the base at a right angle. Last edited by porschedude996; 01-04-2023 at 12:08 PM.. |

Yep the pin is stepped, once out you will most likely need to weld up the slotted hole in the arm ...ask me how I know, cheers.

i like the ball joint seperator idea if the area is big enough. But with things like this i usually use a good pair of channel locks put a nut over the pin and squeeze like hell. Knipex work well because they get into tighter spaces and seem to have more grab force than the standard channel locks.
