Random bolt found in engine bay...where does it go?
I found this random M6 bolt in the engine bay, any idea where it goes?

Could be the engine surround tin, look similar to the ones I just removed, although that washer looks thicker.
|
M6? M8? M10? (I hope not!)
|
Looks oily with a thick washer. Where in the engine bay was it? What engine and intake are you running?

The bolt was in the back left (drivers side) sitting on the engine tin |
Top of the case, where the SSIs tabs mount to? I believe those are M6, and there should be 2, one on either side of the case split, in the rear.
|
I think those hold the engine shroud in place. Or the duct that directs air to the engine-mounted oil cooler.

Maybe the shroud, but not the duct, if he found it drivers (left) on the tin. Looks oily. Washer looks thick. is the engine clean? oily? The shroud is (on mine at least, a 2.7) held on with plated M6s with garden variety plated washers. |

I'll search for where this goes next weekend. Thanks all for the suggestions! |
Just look at the engine sheet metal. I bet you will find a hole where that goes close to the edge of the engine sheet metal where pieces are joined together.

There are several used to hold the engine tin together. They can be a pain to get back in place, and tight. I use a 1/4 drive and a extra long extension, with a swivel socket. Use a flashlight and just look around. You will find the missing one. |
