Were retractable belts available in '69?

I have a '69E that i bought 4 years ago. It has these very practical and easy to use retractable seat belts. Could they be correct for 1969? Not even sure if they are for any Porsche. thanx steve

The PET seems to indicate that Automatic Belts were available. See item 21 from the PET.

I assume you a downloaded copy for the PET (Porsche PaArts Catalog) for your car.

Please post a picture of your seat and belt. The stock 911 Seat Belt install in the early cars is quite unique.

Steve:

No problem. You can find all of the Factory Parts Catalogs (aka the PET) here: https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/classic/genuineparts/originalpartscatalogue/

Send me your e-mail and I will send you some factory pages about Seat Belt install in early 911's.

There is a great company here in Oklahoma City that can re-web and make your seat belts look like new. Seatbelt Planet. They rebuilt the belts in my El Camino.

You can get custom color belts if you want.

Belts from 1960 likely have some wear on them.

Harry, did you get my PM with my email address? Lemme know.

Here are some pictures of the seat belts that came with the car. Note the tag stating "April 2009", but that just be re-webbing. I doubt these are correct/original to the car, or are even Porsche brand.

Comments? thanx steve meltzer

I think a lot of early cars fit retractable from late 70s and early 80s cars. I did that on my 72 Targa and 70E for daily driving and had an aviation 4-point quick release for getting stupid. Performance Products used to have an "update" kit that was essentially bolt in as well.

One of the cars I swapped out the rear interior panels and everything was behind upholstery panels, I think it was the E.

The reel location looks odd but you do not have the trim pieces with the holes cut out. The ends of the lap belt are looking correct as they are attached to the seat base.

I did send them. I’ll resend.

Automatic Repa seat belts was an option available from 1970.
The belts on your picture don’t look like the Repas.
Contact Stretch on 911SRegistry, he makes them.

Note the install of the front shoulder harness (over the speaker) from under the rear trim panel.

Hi Richard. Looking at the PET it appears both fixed three points and retractable were available. I always found the fixed three points a pain.

My memory is that DOT didn't approve retractable until 72, but they were available years earlier in Europe.

69 Automatic seat belts

According the PET manual for 1969 the Automatic seat belts were available as an option, PET nrs 901.803.017.41 (left) and 018.21 (rights). They were made by Autoflug and used the same RePa tongues/receivers as the 3-point fixed RePa seat belts. Plain black thick and soft webbing.

Regards,
Cees

Thanx Cees, that comports perfectly with my memory of the belts in the '69E I owned 40+ years ago! Foolishly sold, long ago. steve
