That little lens/refractor INSIDE the taillight...

It's like 2" x 2" clear plastic lens with a diamond fluting, sits at the very front in front of the hole in the housing on little legs...

I can't find the one for my drivers tail light.

Seems like it comes only with the entire taillight housing?
I'll just go without instead of $550 LOL

And.....what's going on there?? Whats the hole for??
My car is German, so I'm guessing it's a side marker light?
My car has no extra wires, and there's no socket of any kind, just a hole.
and the taillight is clear here, so it looks funny to see the hole.

So, is there a source for just that little lens??

Probably wrong but i think the white reflectors only go in the front.

I just purchased one from Audette Collections, I believe he is a member here. It was a perfect fit and here is the link

I recently had mine apart to replace some bulbs. I have the same clear square reflectors on both sides too. No signs of any light source and I thought the hole might just be for moisture drainage.

Audette has them. I needed one as well and got mine there. Note that there are 2 versions of the lens. The Euro lens has small posts and lacks the small recess for the clip that holds the US version in place. The USA version is without the posts and has the required recess. I know bc I got the Euro and needed the US version lens. Audette swapped for the correct version no problem. Cheers.

The hole in the bottom is indeed for drainage. There is a rubber tube thingy that goes in that hole.

Yup, and one of my taillights has that, the other, no. They are, after 50 years super rock hard. Need to find those too!

THANKYOU!

I've been a 911 owner for a long time, bought a ton of parts, never heard of them! perfect! Got the reflector and some screws and weather stripping and the drains! (as mentioned above)
$86 with shipping. When a wire harness for the tail light is hundred$$$, I can live with that $86 to get these talilights up to standards!

Mine didn’t even have them! I only see the URO brand here in The Bird.

Good find. Audette has them as well. By the pair. I got 4 figuring my fronts are horrid too*. Slightly more $ than our host, but as they had the other items I couldn't find here and was shipping stuff anyway i got them too.

*Thereby assuring me of hours of pleasure pulling the fronts apart, media blasting them, filling the pitting with hi temp JB Weld, sanding, refilling, sanding, then a careful application of Cerakote, then reassembly.......with new drains LOL

This may be a potential source for that little reflector in the tail lights:

I am in the middle of refinishing my right rear tail light assembly. Our host has the new gaskets, specify Right or Left. Also the funny little funnels. Pelican sent me a package of four drain tubes to replace both left and right assemblies, part number 911-631-259-02 for my 1988 coupe.
My old tail light housing had some kind of metal foil lining to act as a reflector to brighten the effect of the tail lights and turn signals.

I have finished the left side, after cleaning the cast metal housing. I sprayed the interior with bright chrome rattle can spray. When lit, I could definitely tell the difference between left and right. It really brightened up the light coming through the lens cover. I think the euro style would be to spray white paint rather than silver/chrome.

The little clear square lenses are to increase the visibility of the side marker bulb, which is only 4 or 5 watts. Similar to how a lens increases the brightness on a lighthouse. Mine were in good shape.
