Question Transmission problem

1981 911 SC

all of a sudden I have trouble getting the shifter into first & reverse. With the clutch pedal to the floor the reverse gears are still spinning.

Does anyone know where to start?

Is it the synchros? or as I believe a bad clutch or just out of adjustment.

I would appreciate all comments

Tx!
john

Well can you with the car stopped and motor running push in the clutch and shift into second and drive?

My first guess would be a combination of worn shift bushings and shift linkage adjustment, but that's all it is, a guess.
Whith the car stopped (engine off) can you get it into first, and if so, how much can you move the shift knob back and forth and side to side?

That likley rules out the clutch problem and points to 1st and reverse sychros and all the other things that can go bad in the 915 transmission.

I had the entire rubber center of the shift coupler rip apart. That is easy to check. It is under the panel in the center back seat.
