The Purpose of a 964 Idle Motor "Muffler" ?

Hi,

On the 964 intake system, there is a little "muffler" that resides between the 2-wire idle motor and the intake.

When we look at the later 993 plastic intake models, the idle motor was changed to 3-wire and plumbs directly into the intake without said muffler.

Does anyone know what is the purpose/function is of this muffler? Could it perhaps be related to the behaviour of the 2-wire idle motor, which actually needs engine vacuum to fully shut?

Asking because it relates to an EFI (for 911SC) project I'm still refining...

Regards,

Daniel
