964 3.6L fit to a 915 trans

I am trying to fit a 3.6L 964 engine onto a 915 transmission to ultimately go into a 1978 coupe. The dual mass flywheel and pressure plate do not fit into the 915 bell housing. I'm searching for a flywheel/pressure plate combination that will fit.

Hopefully some folks on the forum have experience or knowledge of this being done.

Any comments and/or suggestions are much appreciated.

I believe Patrick Motorsports makes a flywheel combination that solves this problem.

What are you using for an ECU? The 964 setup or something aftermarket? I ask because that might change what flywheel you might use.

This setup works well:

964 uses a 240mm clutch and matching PP and fw

915 uses a 225mm clutch and matching PP and fw

these are not at all compatible

most use something like the Patrick conversion fly wheel and a stock sized 915 clutch & pp

I’ve run that Patrick flywheel and Sachs clutch combo on two different 3.6 based motors paired with 915 transmissions. Works perfectly, including holding up to a 370 HP 315 FtLb 3.8. Everything bolts together like its stock.

+1 on the Patrick MS Flywheel & the Sachs Power Clutch combo
Slight clearance mod required to 915 bell housing for the 964 Crank Sensor.

The ring gear attaches to the clutch cover…the flywheel doesn’t really have anything to do with ring gear.
