3 Days, 2735 Miles - Woowhoo2 is Home!

Everything went well... took the red-eye to Miami (one-way ticket!), rented a car to South Beach, met the owner, inspected the car, forked over the moola, and HIT THE ROAD!

I might as well have been flying a UFO... those troopers had such a hard-on for me. I'll bet I had troopers tailing me for a total of at least 300 miles. Only got pulled over 4 times!! (what happens when you don't pay a ticket from out of state?).

Saw the first 911 on HWY 10 in Houston, about 1500 miles out of Miami! Saw a Boxster in New Mexico. That's it... 2 Porsches on the road in 2700 miles.

The car is great... it now has 28,300 miles on the clock and is going in for a full detail tomorrow. I picked up a few small road nicks in the front, which bums me out, but hey, that stuff happens.

The 993 is an awesome machine... MUCH more refined than the '84. Power feels stronger due to more torque and more linear powerband. I don't particulary care for the 6 speed though, I think a 5 speed would be easier to live with. In some ways I miss the more raw feeling of the '84, but the 993 is definitely addicting. Everything is just so nice and smooth with it, and it still has the air-cooled wail, which is just amazing sounding in a Cab.

Looking forward to chip and exhaust, lowering and wheels... and front aero splitters... and rear wing... and no damn money left.

Here's a quick pic... will take more soon.

Motion,

Looks fantastic, congrats on the new purchase! I see you are a fellow Duc owner as well. Impeccable taste runs in the p-car community.

The tickets show up on your DMV records, and a warrant is issued for your arrest.

WOW...awesome car

that is a sweet Duke in the corner...a 748? or is it a water cooled 996

find out about the reciprocity between states...some states transfer points between the respective DMVs...

If the tickets are from Kuala Lumpur then you are probably OK. I don't think they are networked with the states yet.

Depends on the state....a lot of them simply drag the out of state drivers to the local magistrate or call them on the phone and collect the fine right there.

You might try and call AAA, if a member, and ask if the state you got the ticket in has an agreement with CA. With computers, it is now likely they do.

I forgot to pay one in Texas, but it was 25 years ago.....

I think it is kind of funny that he covered 2735 miles in 3 days or an average of 911.6 miles per day. Yep those 911's have a 6 in them

Congrats on the car Motion she looks like a beauty. With that color red no wonder the tax collectors where all over you. Pay the tickets though as a warrent will be issued for you in your home state if you don't

Glad you got your 993. Sweet ride. It's amazing how many of this gang have gotten 993's in the past two weeks. Welcome to the club.

Question

Congratulations, very nice 993. When I was looking across the country for my 89, I often thought it would be cool to fly and drive it back. After getting my PPI, I paid a transporter to haul the car from Boston to Maryland. I couldn't figure out a way to legally tag the car for the drive. What were the logistics of the PPI, payment, title transfer, tags, etc. (or anyone else who has done this) for the car? Thanks.

Possibly urban legend, but I've heard if you pay the ticket and overpay by any amount, the state will have to issue a refund check to you. If you do not cash the refund check, the state, technically cannot close the case. The goal here is to not have the points transfer to your record in California. Truth? Don't know but it sounds good.

I flew out and drove my car home. I used my current plates off my car. Cleared it with the BMV.
From New york to Indiana I didn't see a single P-car. Of course it was DECEMBER!
Oh Nice 993 BTW.

Sweet ride, ive done the trip across country a few times and never had a sweat with the cops. Lets just say i was not exactly loafing it either. I made it from Santa MOnica to Phialdelphia in 2.5 days. Sunday morning to tuesday afternoon. Never a run in with a single cop. I screamed a henna red M3 ( aka "catch me and give me a ticket red" ) from Palm Beach to Philadelphia in record time on 95 and never ruffleed the feathers of the local tin soldiers either. Perhaps were you doing triple digits? hmm ? :-)
