Another thread on headlamp switch
I'm finally getting around to completing a full restore of my 1988 Porsche 911. Literally two years ago my mechanic replaced the turn signal switch on the steering wheel, and I suspect while doing that, he mis-wired the light switch. The driver's headlamp does not have low beam, and it appears that the passenger headlight is always the same intensity.
I've read many threads on the topic and have been trying to decipher electrical diagrams (I don't have the factory diagram for the 88). It also seems that the switch changed to a version 3 for 88. I could use help on the exact color / post # applicable to the switch 911 613 029 03 (1988). Attached are pictures of my switch and a few related that I searched for that are specific to previous versions of the switch. have you installed HL relays (a must have)?

Start with the dumb stuff first. Make sure the fuses for the headlights are good. Remember, there are separate high and low beam fuses for many years (I'm not sure about your 87-89 car). Check for power at the fuses too.

Indeed,
check both fuses first. The you can check the wiring on your switches vs the original wiring diagram for 88 : http://911c1.de/porsche/Schaltplaene/plaene1-10_carrera_32.pdf The light switch is in section G1/G2 with the terminals labelled and the wire colour codes indicated IN GERMAN ! (see bottom of page for legend) |
While you’re in there check the high beam switch on the turn signal lever- over time they get worn and can make contact when in the low beam setting thus always turning the high beams on.
My car suffered from that until I cleaned up and addressed the switch. |
