Good. Then he should be sending you a 033 for your car.

And - the car is off to get new fuel lines at a local air-cooled shop! Excited for this project to be done. While it is there, I may have them digging into a few more things on my todo list.
Stay tuned for updates on progress. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1686588485.jpg |
When you say fuel lines are you also including the fuel distribution lines that are steel? Yours are really mangled and bent. See the pic of my 1981 US 911SC. It's interesting to compare your Euro version to my US. Different air cleaner box. And the cover plates on your York AC compressor are different and I have never seen that before.

If prohibitive then just the soft lines for now. We will see! |
Off to a great start!
There are a few Pelicans in the Twin Cities and a fair few more in the Milwaukee area. (Yes, I know Milwaukee is in WI, not MN.) Bring the car down to CheckedItOut in Chicago this August. They just opened registration last week, so you should still be able to apply. It'll be a great opportunity to meet a ton of midwestern owners and see what we've all been up to with our cars. |

Google suggests the long thin airbox is for 2.7 and the short wide one came with SC; my engine is from a 78SC but has the long skinny box. Can someone measure the inlet diameter of the SC box or approximate dimensions if it's oval? I'll post the dimensions from mine tonight. Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk |
I think the thinner box with the crease in the middle is Euro/ROW. As far as I can tell, all the US SCs had a box like mine. The US SC box is an oval at the opening, approx. 80mm x 72mm, which narrows further inside the box.

Got the full readout from the shop today:
-PO replaced the fuel lines at the tank when a new fuel tank was put in last year. -The shop is working to replace all other soft lines in the car, to remove the ticking time bombs! I likely will do the hard lines on my own at some point to clean up the engine bay. -Doing a valve adjustment as I have no idea when it was last done. As a part of this the shop tells me it will fix the one small oil leak I have as it is shaping from the valve cover gasket. -They found the sway bar was a bit loose due to a stripped bolt on one end, so they are going to get this re-tapped/tightened up for me. Outside of those items - this is the most thorough look over an air cooled mechanic has done since I got the car, and they gave the rest of the vehicle a clean bill of health. If all goes as planned (fingers crossed) I will get the car back mid-week next week! I am excited to get behind the wheel again! |

Finally got the car back from the shop! Felt great to get behind the wheel again.
The sorting continues - they did a number of things: -Replaced all fuel soft lines under the hood -Valve adjustment, spark plugs, and fixed a leaky valve cover gasket (no broken head studs!) -fixed a stripped sway bar bolt causing it to be loose -fan belt Once back, I also installed on stainless gauge rings as the PO had glued some grey plastic looking rings in the car that looked a bit cheap, but damaged the gauge rings underneath when I removed them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1688684695.jpg |
Did you ever check your VIN to see if your car is Euro or US? I think it's a Euro or ROW SC. Also, your seats are not from a 1981 SC. They are definitely different than my seats. I think you said earlier that yours is a US SC, but I don't think so. Good news is Euro spec had a few more HP.

Strange Looking Air Filter Cover………….
Quote:
Brian, Are you aware that the air filter cover (snorkel) on your motor is NOT the correct one? You got a pre-SC SNORKEL. If you want the correct SNORKEL for SC’s I could give you one for FREE. Just take care of the shipping cost. I was very busy last May and probably why I missed this thread. Tony |
Here is an updated photo of the engine bay. I have since changed the snorkel. Also you can see all of the new fuel lines in the second photo.
Yes - I still have the wrong WUR on the car. I was sent an 090 from Tony and when I installed it, the car ran worse - no further pickup past 3k RPM. It is hard to describe - the car just felt slow throughout the entire RPM band. Talking to Tony we think likely other components in the CIS system are having issues - and I am planning to start another thread to work through this particular troubleshooting. On the CIS troubleshooting, I am starting with: -Fixing the oxygen sensor male plug, and hooking this back up -Performing a smoke test. Doing a bunch of searching on the forums for the best/easiest way to do this http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1688740325.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1688740325.jpg |
CIS Components……..….
Brian,
Could you check the following CIS components installed on your engine for me?
Is your Oxygen sensor connected and working with your ECU. And the FV (frequency valve) operational? Frequency valve and enrichment relays both tested OK? Ask your mechanic about them. I have a strange feeling the previous owner had installed parts just to make the motor run to sell the car. Hope I am wrong. Keep us posted. Tony |
