They rust from the inside - time to replace it.

Yep. Just rust. No fixing it, just replacing it.

A good excuse to go ahead and get rid of them entirely. There are a few threads that might give the impression that once removed it’s simply a matter of filling the bolt holes. What I discovered was some corrosion in the bumper around the holes. Nothing particularly difficult to fix up yourself but it isn’t necessarily as simple as just removing them. Still worth getting rid of the bumperettes.

One of mine was puffy from rust so I replaced them with the Euro variants. Much lighter. Removing the bumper to plug weld the extra holes and a respray are a simple, straighforward gig. I do like the look of no bumperettes, but like a bit of protection at the bumper, so went with Euro vs none.

Does euro require any body work?

Yes, you need to plug two holes each side as the Euros have two less studs I plug welded the holes as it was time to tidy up the bumper with a respray, but you may be able to get away with bumper plugs.

Good info here Installed Euro Rear Bumpereretts On 911 SC

I replaced mine with another USA version. At the Rocky Mountains National National park parking area some idiot let his pickup roll backwards just a little and his trailer hitch bumped right into the rubber bumperette. It moved us forward a foot but left zero damage. I could see the outline of his trailer hitch in the road dirt, but it wiped off.

It saved me from going to jail for murder!

I replaced mine with Euro style, direct replacement on the SC, and filled the remaining holes with black plastic plugs. They look fine. My own damn fault for not realizing that my old bumperettes were shot until after the car was painted.
