3.2 intake spacer sandwich - glue up question
I'm planning on gluing up (2) phenolic spacers for the 3.2 intake on a 3.0 ltr. Since the engine is in the car, this seems like a better plan (other than the Turbo Kraft $300 kit delivered).
![]() The top spacer has the notch for the injector and is available here at Pelican: 930.110.459.00 The bottom is not noted at Pelican: 930.110.036.98 and is for carbed/ITB? without the notch. They have identical ~41mm bores. Instead of trying to grind out a notch on the head, I'll try and carry/extend the notch of the upper spacers down into the lower and complete the path for the injector. I've noticed they're not perfectly flat, so I'll try to remedy that. I don't know what each are made of either: paper, canvas or linen in the phenolic resin. Also, I've found some studs that should accommodate the additional height (58mm I think). Now the questions: 1-What do you suggest for bonding these two together? 2-Do you think it will increase the potential for vacuum leaks? thanks, Last edited by targa44; 09-10-2019 at 09:48 PM.. You do realize they are used on a carrera to make up the height difference of the metal removed from the carrera head intakes.
Adding two to your SC will raise your injection well over an inch. Bruce |

But on the original question: Why bond them together? Just add an additional gasket between them.

Several options for bonding them together:
- 2-part epoxy - Permatex - Generic gasket sealer A gasket between two flat surfaces seems redundant when using one of the above. Some methods are permanent. Others are temporary, for replacement purposes. Sherwood |

Bruce - add'l spacer adds 8mm... ~ 1/4". Total of 2 spacers/2 gaskets @ 3/4" total. I'm not discounting your contribution at all. I've thought about that too. As an aside, the Bitz CIS conversion kit takes the CIS super longer injector and replaces it with an EV1 style which is injecting fuel over 2" farther up the intake.
Quicksilver - I thought to minimize (at least a little) the height as in Bruce's concern. Sherwood - Thanks, I'm thinking permanent bond due to unique application. Once bonded, a little easier to trace that injector notch to the bottom spacer too. If extra room (height) still exists, it might be easier to surface the bottom down and reduce some of the add'l height that Bruce remarked about. thank you, |
