Problem with momentary loss of power

Hey Gang,

I have occasional loss of power while I am driving my 911 Porsche 82 SC.
The problem comes on unexpectedly from time to time without any reason.
Here is the problem: While driving in normal traffic conditions, I accelerate
and for no reason there is a loss of power. The loss of power will last for
about 15 seconds or so, and when I come to a stop at a light the loss of
power (engine feels like it is running on 5 cylinders) will return to full power
on its own without having to press the gas pedal. At full power, it runs well
with plenty of power. Anybody has this same problem?

I had a problem with a little bogging under hard acceleration sometimes with my car. I got it good and hot one day and drove the heck out of it, and it blew out this huge cloud of black smoke and it’s been good ever since.

That said, what you’re talking about can be due to a number of things. I’d start with checking regular maintenance items first, spark plugs (mark the cylinder they came out of and post picture on here so people can give opinions) distributor cap, spark plug wires, connections.

All of that stuff is fairly cheap and easy to do…

If none of that fixes it, then start with he harder stuff.

In my experience, that would indicate that its time for new spark plugs. Maybe throw in a distributor cap and rotor, if u have not replaced that in a while.

Loss of power for 15 seconds or so, intermittent, power comes back on its own. Before just throwing a bunch of parts at it I would check spark, sounds like a dying coil to me. Does it do it when it’s cold or after warm up.
