Show me reinforced rear sway bar mounts
Let's see pics of your reinforced rear sway bar mounts. I am mostly interested in seeing what the creative fabricators among us have cut and welded in.
Thanks, Dan

Wevo
I wouldn't call this creative welding, just geting the job done. My dad's old shop aparently cut off the left mount after the right mount was torn from the body.
We, (well, mostly my mechanic buddy), used a plasma cutter and grinder to removve the fuel pump mount and old bracket, ground to clean metal and hosed with a few coats of "weld through primer", We second guessed Wevo and drilled a 13mm hole in the center of the new mound to add another weldment to the installation. Picked up a used 18mm rear bar, (to match the front carrera 20mm bar), poly bushings, new caps and used drop links, added new stock link mounts, painted the whole mess and we are back on the road cornering fairly flat :-) ![]() ![]()

I just did this as a "preventative upgrade" while my motor was out. This idea was stolen from someone else, I just copied!
Anyway, I used 16 Ga sheet metal to make a plate that would fit in the perimeter of the backside of the the mount. I used a cardboard template to get the size and them simply cut the sheet metal: ![]() Along with the sheet metal plate, I used a pair of M8x1.25 coupling nuts per side. This protects against that "other" sway bar mount failure mode... stripped threads: ![]() After sanding off the zinc plate in the areas to be welded, I then mounted the coupling nuts "in series" with the existing threads: ![]() Added in the sheet metal plate and tacked it together: ![]() And then welded it up securely: ![]() Next is just primer, seam sealer, body schutz etc. to proprely protect everything. |

Now that is a good alternative to spending $200.00 + on Wevo mounts ...
Gotta love this forum ![]() This will be in the plans for me this Winter ! Cheers ! Phil

Porsche themselves have beefed up the brackets as well, the replacement parts (911.501.983.00-GRV) already come with a reinforcement plate.

Here's mine...
I used thin steel plate to create a 'butterfly' to try to triagulate the mount. Welded it up - new paint and a later Carrera bar. No breakie yet. Here you can see my mad welding skills... ![]()

Is there any concern that an overly strong bracket could transfer too much force the the body sheetmetal and cause serious/expensive damage? Or am I overthinking the situation...?

I think you're overthinking it. Porsche used the same location on many 911 race cars, so it must not be too weak. And if you're still concerned, carry the reinforcement plate up to the torsion tube.
