Here's a couple of pictures of red, old stock Purolator filters for Porsche (literally stamped on boxes they're packaged in), made in Germany (marked on actual filter) I bought (hopefully the pics showed up?)

Canamfan, I'd compare the combined area of the holes to understand the difference. If you get qty and diameter of each hole you can understand the difference in flow capability.

Don't forget to factor in spring rate to calculate bypass ratio. If more holes = more flow (in this exercise}, but bypass spring is lower than the other canister, then filtering means little at high (above spring rate) pressure and the number of holes isn't a concern.

Actually, probably can skip that, as the system only cycles some oil through the oil filter at any given time.

Purolator PC260 (old stock made in Germany) on left & Mahle OC54 (made in Austria) on the right, I’m no expert, but these look identical other than pinch marks on Mahle, hope they’re really just as good as each other, but I don’t know what to look for exactly

Had bought the Mahle (4 or 5 of them) a couple of years ago from Worldpac & Autocamping (all of them were either from Germany or Austria), the Purolators (4 of them off eBay recently), down to my last Mahle though & my recent purchase from Worldpac has sent me a “made in China” Mahle (probably won’t be using it), hence the recent Purolator purchase

Be careful with these NOS Purolator filters. I picked up a few on EBay and was excited because I thought I would be good to go with Quality filters for the foreseeable future. However, I was concerned when mine came today and I noticed some light rust on the threads. I felt like there might be more rust lurking inside, so I sacrificed one and cut it open. Sure enough there was more rust. At this point I’m afraid to use any of them. :-(

Mann produces a lot of different oil filters at a plant in NC. Not sure if this one is produced there. I have always liked their products. I use to go through the factory for work a lot.

I have been using the Baldwin filters on my 911 as well as my 86 El Camino. Of course totally different filters, just the same brand. I have cut open several of the used filers and they seem to be very high quality.

Last week I went out of my way to the next hardware store to pick up non-made in China faucet shut off valves, paid twice the price for made in Canada. Was a good call. I would throw that filter in the garbage and feel relieved that I didn't make a silly judgement.
Too tempting at a weak or desperate moment…Toss it. Maybe cut it open and show what the inside looks like.

Amazon. And buy several at a time so they pack them in a box, and not in a bag so they don't arrive dented and have to be returned.
