where else can I put front speakers..
Just put in RS door panels. Look so screamin I don't want to put my speakers in the doors. What other options are there? I have the rears still, but looking for a place to put fronts...

How about the trash can? Your stereo is in the back of the car, under the decklid!!! :D

I'm going to do this soon to Kurt--any tips before I start? I'll be installing speakers though--just got a system put in yesterday.

Hahahaha...if you only knew how loud my car is...
It's fairly straight foward. You'll need a 3/8" drill. Roll up the windows before you take the switches off. You'll drill a 3/8" hole, use their tool and some other goodies to thread in a little anchor for the handle, and the rest falls out very easily from there. I do all my cutting after the door is in place. I mount it then cut out and pull through (power window wiring etc)...just to be sure. Fun project. |
Kurt, can we see a pic of the install. Since I have a cab like you, I woudl like to see how it looks.

Kurt-
I seem to recall someone having small tweeter-type speakers and mounting them just inboard of the windshield pillars, along with mid-range speakers tucked just below the dash. |
YO KURT!
sorry to yell, but check this link, http://www.moch-1.com/UNDERDASH.htm the site looks a bit shady, but i think this might work for you. I think Perf prod sells it too (not trying to stiff PP:)) |
When I bought my 70 it had these speaker walls custom installed. They worked so well I transfered them to my 76. If you want I could stencil you a blueprint and your could cut them out of whatever material you want.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/int 1.JPG

don't know if the later cars have the spot in the center dash...but I guess that is for mono speakers
I was contemplting putting the speakers in the door and covering them with the RS panels...since I only need the radio for news radio or for long trips I am not too concerned with sound quality...the RS panels would hide the speakers and keep the clean look... wonder if covering the speakers would make the RS panels buzz or make unwanted noise... I know performance products have those under dash panels with space in them for speakers too...but looks bulky and clumsy to me MJ hmmm MJ |
needlevalve,
The lower kick panels are one of the best places to put a set of speakers for imaging. If they are angled correctly, the staging is fantastic. I planned on making something similar out of fiberglass when switching to a set of RS door panels. |
What TurboRuf said and Needlevalve showed. It actually sounds awesome (in pretty much any car) when they are mounted there.
Make them out of wood and f'glass - good fun. I guess my speaker pods weighed about 3lb each with no speaker and were seriously over-engineered. Use a good quality 5.25" and a decent amp (50-100wrms /speaker) and you wouldn't know it was such little speakers. I had that sort of thing plus a sub (crossed over at 90hz) in my peugeot 106 (cabin is a small as a 911) and it sounded great and went way louder than I would listen. |
