959 race car body
I have a widebody 3.6 that just sits, i mean sits i drive it maybe 200 miles a year. So I am thinking about cuttin it up to do some light race car duties.
I have seen an asphalt 959 race car that has a crazy cool body I think it may have burned down, anyway does any body make that race car body or have the front fenders etc. by the way i am not looking for a 959 body kit no interest. I am only interested in the actual race car body look. any pictures, Kevin |

I know I can't help here, but I'm still confused. You must be comparing to a 959 rally car. There are lots of "asphalt" cars. The back end is really different than a regular 911. The front could probably be accomplished with somebody's fenders and front. You want steel, then? I have no idea where one would obtain that. Better call Bruce Canepa.
BTW, I was googling 959's and reading some info for kicks. One of the google hits was like this! Porsche 959 Parts - Porsche 959 Accessories at Auto Parts Warehouse We stock Porsche 959 Parts and Accessories and offer free shipping on most US continental Porsche 959 Parts and Porsche 959 Accessories orders ROFLMAO!!!!!! Maybe you can just call them!

Hello. There might be one or two 961's left. I don't think you'll be able to "cut up them for parts" anyway soon.
I wonder how you plan to acomplish "actual race car body look" without using body kit? There is probably no stock sheet metal to achieve that look (961 was probably custom made in fiberglass) so "body kit" is your only option.

I think they only built 2 961s. Carry Morris ended up with the burned one (at least some panels). If anyone can produce a body kit or even originally body panels (he may have factory molds) it would be Arnold Getty, Getty Design.
I have seen some original panels at Arnold's shop so give him a call. You my even try calling Carry. He's a little though to get a hold of but if he'll talk to you he is probably the best authority on the 961 around.

Nice pic...Dutchie... I only saw the "factory white" 961 in pics..... interesting.
Why couldn't one use a Getty/other 959 body kit as a starting point ?? - Wil

Might just be me, but the 961 body looks the same as the 959 body. Why can you not just use a 959 body kit to get the same result - where is it that you want it to be different from the 959??

961 is wider, squared off at fenders, 2 years at leman, Arnold is the guy for 959 replica panels for the 911/964 chassis, I have installed these, and for street use were designed for asethetics, vs rally or track use, which are easily dismantled, and replaced. look carefully at P/D rally cars and yo will see the the 1/4s include the corner of the wing, and the center of the wing is held up by struts with a cooler underneath. The 959 street, as arnolds copy, is a complete rear lid with wing.arnolds nose section encompasses fenders and bumper as one unit, and can be made removable. Both the 961 and p/d 959 were race interpetations, and only share the shape, not the attachment. I can build what you desire, and plan on doing the same to a 964 rollover, give me a shout at 603.863.0090 for details. :>)

I've got this motor sitting around - would you want to try and use it in the drivetrain?

In theory there should be a unused 959 body floating around. Completely unused.
Remember back in the late 80's Russia (lousy bastards) bought a 959 and slipped the engine, drivetrain etc into a Lada to make the Lada look good in the international rally car champs. |
