Electrical Troubleshooting
I can’t tell how to fix your electrical problems. It is not like the movies where if you cut the red wire the world is saved, but if you cut the green wire Christy Brinkley dies. The angry pixies present in the electrical system don’t care about the color of the insulation, only the conductor underneath. I can only give you general advice.
You need a multimeter. I have a fluke 83 but you dont need something that expensive. A test light helps too, get one they are cheap. You may find 9v battery helpful. Get some alligator clip jumpers. Get a wiring diagram. Check that get two or three. Wiring diagrams are never 100% accurate. Study the diagram. I mean really study it. You guys are smart. You made it in life to the point where you are asking advice about Porsches. Keep looking at it until you understand how current is flowing. Here are things to expect in an old car. Corroded connections. Anywhere there is a joint will have some level of corrosion. Abraded insulation. Anywhere there is insulation rubbing on metal it will wear until the copper shows through. Jack-leg wiring. At some point some jack-leg got into the wiring and did something bad. It could be poor quality. It could be Bypassing the original design. It could be splicing, or adding or using dubious connectors. If you see something that doesn’t look factory, think about removing it. There are some great videos on motor sport wiring. Watch them. You should be as conscious to detail as they are. You may not choose to use every technique a racer uses, but consider why they do what they do.
