Battery question and/or recommendation
As I stated in a recent thread here, I believe the battery on my 83 911sc has finally given up the ghost. I have had the car 7 years and it must have been replaced just before I purchased the car. Anyway, the battery appears to be a "Genuine Porsche"(?) battery as it has the Porsche name on the battery. Off to the top right of the battery it shows "
MOLL Kamina 588 15 12v 88Ah 395A Made in Germany My question is, should I replace the battery with another Porsche battery or is any battery with a similar capacity purchased at the local auto parts store going to do the trick......Or, is there another battery that you would recommend for my 83' 911. Thanks |

+1 on what @darrin said. For my 83 SC, I installed a new Group 48 H6 AGM battery from Walmart. It replaced an existing Bosch Group 49 H8.
The Group H8, I believe is the size that came out of the factory, with the car. But, the Group 48 H6, a bit shorter and lighter is slightly easier to install. As @darrin said, the car has factory punched mounting slots for the Group 48 / H6 as well, so fits perfectly. I found that G48/H6 were much more prevalent, and easier to find at FLAPS or big box stores thatn the G48/H8.

On my 85 Carrera, I recently replaced a Interstate MTX-49/HB AGM glass mat battery with another just like it. It is the exact same battery used in my wife's 2017 Macan.
On one road trip, I went out to the car at night and turned on the dome light. I forgot to shut it off and in the morning I could tell it was still on from my motel room window. The battery did not notice and the car fired right up with amps to spare. Yea, it is big and heavy, but so what. I am not a pro driver on the track trying to shave thousandths of second off of my times.
