Bosch CIS injector numbers and substitutes

I hope Tony will pick up on this thread:

My car has some irregularity at idle and hesitation/surging at cruise. It runs smoothly at wide throttle settings. I tend to think this is due to poor fuel atomization, so I'm considering changing the injectors.

I'm seeing a range of pricing on the same Bosch part number, 0437 502 004, from $36 on up to $70 or so. Other numbers associated with this injector include: 028851079518, 3165142315812, 62281, 911 110 225 01, 911-110-225-01, 911-110-225-01-M14, 911.110.225.01, 91111022501

Has anyone tried different injectors in their Porsche CIS engines? Are there compatible injectors for MB, BMW, VW, etc. that work well and cost less?

I've looked a couple of times and not found any good cross-reference for the injectors...

Off topic but a good story, at least for me.

Went injector shopping for my 83SC 3.0 about two years ago. All the usual websites had them for
$45-$60 each. On a lark I threw the part number into Amazon. There they were -new for $10 apiece. Read every word looking for things like used, rebuilt, reconditioned, seconds etc. Bought 6 for around $65 total and received them in a few days. Brand new never used still in the original box each with a plastic cap on the threaded end. Installed the next day and the car ran smooth as silk.

Decided to jump back on the big A and buy six more for future needs. There they were. Same seller.
Now $46 each.

Maybe it was a typo, fat finger or old stock that no one checked the current price on. To date my best Porsche deal.

$10 each was a great deal. I better jump on the $36 ones like a big hairy dog.

What are the Bosch ID # of the WUR & FD in your motor? The cracking pressures for the CIS fuel injectors is 36~52 psi. range. This is too broad for my taste. I test them for cracking pressures and group them into:
Group I: 36~42 psi.
Group II: 43~49 psi.
Group III: 50~55 psi.

I find Group II to be more common or abundant in my testing. The homemade fuel injector tester that I have could test 6 injectors at a time. In case you need a set of fuel injectors let me know. I have so many of them just sitting in bottled jars .

There's a shop here in town that can back flush, clean and test flow rate on injectors. I recently had mine done. Cost about $40.00. One or two (two I think) were out of spec with the others so I bought new from my local euro parts store. Bosch. I'd have to pull out the receipt file. I then had the guy test the new ones and one was way out of spec even though new. I took it back and exchanged for another. That time they were all in reasonable range of each other. The cleaning also confirms good (or bad) spray pattern. It's more important that they are all equal. The mixture you can adjust with an AFR gauge and the plunger adjustment.
Look for an "injector service" in your area. Not rocket science, but to do it right you need a machine. It can emulate the correct fuel pressure during the test. Important for seeing spray pattern.
