1968 Rear Valance Question.
Wanted to ask if anyone knows about this rear valence on this project 68.
Why is it flush to the decklid as opposed to being countersunk as the restored car is. Thanks ![]()

agree - that is not a valance - it's an aftermarket fill piece.
Another mis-guided attempt to 'improve' the classic look.

Agree. Those kinds of filler panels and "Frenched" license plates and taillights were popular among VW customizers in the 70's and 80's. It's now a part of that car's history, and it's unusual-- I don't think I've seen one in person.
If you want to get rid of it, let me know.
