400,000 posts? Sooner than you think!
Less than two months ago, we passed the 300,000 post mark, and now we're 1/3 of the way to 400,000! I'd say we'll hit that mark in June!

A suggestion from the peanut gallery: since the last century mark led to a flurry of extraneous posts that scrambled up the server, why don't you hide the counter after 395,000, and make the gift-certificate winner truly random, instead of being the guy with the ability to slam the system with an entire network's worth of IT firepower.

Dammit, Jack, I was going to use my entire network of IT firepower, and now you've gone and ruined my evil plan.

"entire network of IT firepower"
Okay. That phrase probably gives away my complete and utter lack of knowledge about all things computer-related. ![]()

I used to be with IT, but then they changed what "IT" was. Now, what
I'm with isn't IT, and what's "IT" seems weird and scary to me. |

Jack - that phrase is perfect, and I can't wait to use it at our next board meeting.

Hmmm, I don't remember the server going wacko personally. The random thing is a good idea. Of course, I could just wait until 500,000!

Yes Wayne, but you don't know, someone could unleash an entire network of IT firepower, and then where would we be?

It's time - looks like I was *spot on* with my prediction for 400,000 posts!
Okay, here's how it's going to work this time. I will have my computer choose a random number from 1 to 1000. Then I will add that number onto 400,000. The winner will get a goodie bag containing the following; - Stickers - Porsche Models - $50 Gift Certificate - 911 Turbo Mug (I have a bunch of these) - Porsche Crest Pin - Porsche 911 Pin - Porsche Keychain Wallet and any other free stuff I have lying around. ![]() -Wayne

Wayne,
Am curious: have you kept a record of how long it took to get to 100K posts? 200K? etc... Perhaps you could hold a contest with people submitting guesses (1 each) for the the date & time that 500,000 posts will be reached. The deadline would end when the 400K mark was reached, then at 500K, just announce the winner, no countdown. Save the really good prize(s) for the big one: 1,000,000 posts. Seems like it might happen quicker than you expect.
