I have been having intermittant start problems with my 89 UK RHD 3.2 Carrera. I have done just about everything mentioned on the board over the last few months that might contribute to this...
CHT Sensor Coil Distributer and rotor arm Idle Valve DME joints DME Relay Cleaned and tightned earths Cleaned fuses Fuel pump So.. now I thought I would look at the alarm/immoboliser systems. I removed the blower unit and behind it this is what I found... ![]() Notice that part of the loom has been chopped off. The two wire groups going off to the left bottom attach to this box via the two 6 pin connectors... ![]() I have removed the cover so you can see inside. FYI the chip hidden by the wire is a 4011. On the outside of the box was a label with the markings 999.999.7xx.00 (coudln't make out the xx) there was a label inside that said 'Passed 25.8.88'. Although the chopped harness is odd the date of the box and the fact it uses proper connectors and seems to be atttached to the original loom makes me think this may have been a Porsche UK replacement for the standard immobliser. Has any one in the UK seen this on their car? Do the US cars have a couple of unused connectors on the harness near the immobliser box? I don't know what else to try or what else to ask. I cant disable this box like the standard one to see if it is causing my problems because the wiring isnt the same. The car wont run with the box unplugged but the box doesnt seem to immoblise the car as it should (if you lock the car and reach in through the window it will start ok) I'm going to try to contact Porsche GB and see if they have a clue but I'm tending towards getting the car to a Porsche specialist and having them remove the box and wire in a new alarm/immoboliser instead only problem is this will cost me money I dont have ![]() Thanks for any help Andy |

can't help you if my u.s. 911 is like that but use your multi meter and go through and check each wire where it was chopped......
check for parking lights.... starter..... ignition...... etc.... if it is an aftermartket alarm you'll want to trace them to where they connect and inspect the connection to where they tap, if they weren't soldered (just stripped and taped/t-taps are worse) you may have a weak link. that's what i would do ![]() my .02
