Finally getting a motor for my roller, what to address?

Getting a 3.2 motor from a donor 89.

Odometer read 99k and it was enthusiast owned.

Car was an insurance buy back.

What should I address before the motor goes in?

I am thinking the below:

- Fuel Lines
- Wires
- Plugs
- Dist cap / rotor
- Replace all vacuum lines
- Refresh hardware as needed
- Larger alternator (going to install a new sound system and will run AC)
- Belts
- Air Filter
- Oil
- Overall Clean

I was on the fence on a 993 motor that was listed here on Pelican, but not sure what work would be involved to get it on the 89 G50 and more importantly pass CA smog/inspection.

Check head studs and adjust valves.
Check leak down.

There is a thread within last month or 2 on this just FYI that had lots of info. But also replace:
Intake gaskets
Clean fuel injectors
Big Hose Between intake manifolds
throttle body o ring/gasket
Valve job and new gasket/washer nut set
Rocker arm shaft rubber washers (forgot what they are called technically)

Leak down will tell you life of engine but open up more worms than the rocket arm stuff.

If you have poor leak down or broken head studs, all the other stuff is secondary.

I'm going to guess this is Tom's engine? I would feel comfortable throwing it in any of my cars and driving from east coast to west coast without doing anything but an oil change.

Yup either the one he's been working on through YT or the one from the Cab that got totaled out.

Went and test drove it for the G50 and we made a deal on the motor as well.

Excited to bring the Guards Red 89 cab back to life in my GR 87. Also getting quite a bit of other bits that I need from it as well.

Check the torque on the rocker shafts. If there is any sign of oil leakage around the shafts, install RSR seals. Easier with the engine out. I don't remember if they were still using Dilavar studs in '89. If you have Dilavar, I would replace them. They all break eventually.

I'd check any wiring that looks original, ie injector harness, sensor wires (CHT and reference sensors) etc.

I believe they used Dilavar on the bottom. That was the case with my 84 3.2 so I replaced them with steel.

almostordinary-

I see at the top of your list are "fuel Lines". I can help you with this.

My lines are E85 Rated and made to your specific needs.

They are considered factory level or higher by those who know my products.
