She is whole again !

After two and a half years, bent and crashed race cars, a fire in one, several blown motors and trannys my friend and local Porache wizard has my motor done. Again. Iris is back in my garage with the engine and tranny back in.

Removing the PMO's adding fuel injection and 1 5/8" headers she now makes 298 HP and 248 ft/lbs. torque, HP is at 6700 RPM and the torque is about 6000 RPM. Most of the mapping was done on the crankshaft dyno but I am sure there will be some "on the street" tuning to be done.

Now I get to mount the brain, mount the air/fuel meter, put the old high presure fuel pump back on and the high pressure filter, re-run most of the engine wiring and then "go for a ride".

Uh oh, I just switched my new paint color choice (that goes on next weekend) from a non-Porsche royal blue metallic to the original Arctic Silver...I have a feeling I may have to make a phone call once these pics are up.

Details on the motor please. What ITB are you using and what controller? Displacement, CR, cam and exhuast info would be great.

Fabulous looking car!

Cheers

Randy --

You had about 250 hp before, right? So you added about 50 hp? How's the torque feel at the low end and mid-range?

Congrats!

Spec. sheet

I don't have the motor plugged in yet, a winters worth of work I think ?

Here is some basic info, engine work by Dick Elverud of Portland Oregon. 3.2 Liter (98mmX70.4mm), 10.2:1 J-E pistons, Web-Cam's 120-104, 3.2 Carrera heads dual plugged, 964 dizzy custom built with mechanical advance, ARP rod bolts, Vellios throttle bodies and Simple Digital Systems fuel management system, 1 5/8" George's headers ceramic coated, S-Car-Racing dual in dual out stainless steel muffler, Elverude custom aluminum flywheel and Sach aluminum pressure plate, Carrera tens, dual MSD-6AL ignition boxes, 930 lower valve covers.

Horsepower as I said is 298 at about 6700 RPM's and torque is 248 ft /lbs at about 6500 RPM.

Randy, that car is positively OUTSTANDING, with the grunt to back up the looks. I will look foward to seeing it at the next meet. Did you fab your own RS America panel for the back or....? Congrats on putting together such a fine machine. Ferry would be proud - if not shocked.

Hey Buddy

Great to hear you've got the "Slut" back!

You're going to thrill a whole 'nother generation of Pelicans with Iris... it's been too long.

"Iris" aka "The Slut" is "Iris Blau" a 993 colour.

Wow! That car is just beautiful! Almost 300 horsepower puts you right in 996 territory without all of the weight. Your car must simply fly.

Nice backdrop for the pics btw.

Iris rev 2

Long overdue follow up here picking up where Randy left off 18 years ago. I became the custodian of Iris in 2018, and drove it as-is for a year. By 2019 i was sleuthing for details about the prior build and even posted here looking for anyone with info. She's a monster as is and my intent was to go about refreshing while keeping the essence of what Randy built as the basis...

Since acquiring,

- dropped the motor and installed a Patrick Motorsports LW flywheel and new Sachs clutch.
- left the motor and gearbox alone save a leakdown test and...
- all new accessible seals and clutch shaft bushings/guide tube while everything was out
- new motor and trans mounts
- New high torque starter (she decided to eat the pinion on the original Bosch starter while on a Hill Country Rallye in 2020)
- New proper MSD high vibration coils (black vs. red) were swapped to keep the outlaw upside down mounting position.
- The fine gentlemen at Mayo's tuned the motor and cleaned up the carbs.
- Full suspension was removed, everything blasted and fresh powder coat
- Rebel Racing teflon front and rear bushings added
- Rebel rear RSR monoballs.
- Tarrett rear RSR replica swaybar mounted on new brackets
- Tarrett RSR replica front swaybar and drop links
- New monoball upper strut mounts/camber plates
- Rebel aluminum front strut bar
- New Bilsteins front and rear (HD and Sport)
- Elephant quick change spring plates
- Sway A Ways 22/27
- Rebuilt rear axle CVs
- Brakes calipers redone by PMB front and rear
- New Sebro rotors
- New parking brakes
- Replaced the Seine shifter with a Numeric short throw shifter
- Cleaned up and resprayed the engine bay while it was out, redid all the electronics out back.
- refurbed heater boxes in anticipation of eventually adding back heat.
- Interior was completely stripped, rear shelf removed along with all the audio bits (save the door cards)
- dynomat'd the floor and rear, recarpeted with RS Lightweight carpet (dynomat was a onene weight swap for all the audio stuff and shelf)
- redid the pedal cluster
- New GTS Classic Hockenheim seats with Scheel style headrests
- New Avon CR6ZZ's in 185 and 215
- fresh corner balance and setup by the Mayo's crew, along with countless other consults. If you are in TX, these gentlemen are your proper counsel.

and a million other misc bits that I'm forgetting.

Many thanks to all those i've pestered for info, insight, and education. have had the good fortune to come to know many in this small community that have helped tremendously, and hope to pass along the same.

anyway... Iris rides again. Some photos of various points along the way;
