My door won't stay closed.

I assume I need a new latch mechanism?
Symptoms are that the latch simply doesn't hold shut, even if I just grab the latch with my hand I can get it to let go. Car is apart quite a bit but am about to put things back together. What's the process/fix?

I've seen peeps with rattling doors and bungee cord holding their doors closed when the door striker plate nylon is all rotted out:
Like this:

Make it look like this...

But could be the latch itself as well....
