Question What's your favorite fuel for the P-car?

I was a a hockey game a couple of years ago with a rep from one of the major petroleum companies. He said that basically all gas is the same, except that each company uses different additives.

What do you think is the best fuel for my 84? Why?

Thanks.

mine seems happier running Chevron. I'm a reprobate and only run 89 octane though. One advantage to low compression p/c...

In Southern California, I always try to use Chevron, Shell or Texaco, based on a thread on this site that I barely remember.

I have heard the same thing from suicide jockeys (gas tanker drivers) that you stated Scott. I worked in gas station construction/mantainance for 10 years and can tell you that Chevron has the highest standards. I dreaded thier inspections & punch lists.I don't recall being dispatched to a Chevron to pump water out of their tanks due to ground water migration. I have seen a line of cars a block away from other stations after a heavy squall because their customers pumped water into thier cars. I buy my fuel only at Chevron.

I read an article in Road & Track a few years ago about gas. Not only does it differ from brand to brand, but also from market to market, and even by season. The gas you might buy in Denver in the winter will be quite different from that sold in Dallas in the summer. Chevron seems to have high standards, and the fuel has detergent that I'm told is good for fuel injection systems.

Ever since I started using Chevron the car runs a lot smoother. The car used to have hot starting problems, and now it's gone. Before I used to think that all gas was generally the same, however the techron in Chevron gas has changed my opinion on this.

Cheveron is one of the last stations to use that three letter chemical (which escapes me right now) that seeps into our water supply, is hell on the environment, and is rumored to break down catalitic converters or something like that (and has been blamed for some car fires). Most other brands have stopped using it and, by law, ALL brands wil have to stop - Cheveron is refusing to get rid of it before they absolutely have to.
I don't know about MY '84 911, but Cheveron gas made my Harleys run like crap. Now I use either 76 or Shell with no problems.

I believe that you are talking about MTBE? I also think that 76 is the only major brand that has stopped using it, or maybe they are just the only ones that advertise not using it??

76 union, shell, or Texaco. Back during the 70's gas crunch, a Chevron station owner refused to sell me gas, despite my Chevron credit card proclaiming me to be a valued customer for over a decade. The dealer said: "That card doesn't mean nothing to me." I then figured it meant nothing to me either, so I cut it up, and sent it to the President of Chevron, along with a nasty letter. Me? Carry a grudge? Yep! I haven't bought a drop of Chevron gas since. Have to admit tho, I'd take a tankfull of the "white pump" I used to be able to buy for my '66 Pontiac GTO...Then, it was the only gasoline for the muscle car set.

Chevron. Never Shell (too many stories of water from the local pumps).

Downunder:

Shell Optimax or Mobil 8000. But it's all marketing hype. I only buy either of the obove because smaller service stations (the Kwik-E-Mart kind) have been known to dilute petrol with kerosene and all sorts of stuff.

People who think thier cars run stonger/faster/cleaner/sexier after using "bling fuel A" (or B) are funny.

Hey Scott, I've been trying to only burn Chevron because of the Tecron it has.
