Help! 911 Backdate fender fitting nightmare.

Before I decide which cliff to drive this car off of, hopefully someone can help me.

Started the process of backdating my 911SC.

Getting the fenders on and having issues getting everything lined up like everyone does. They are Dansk fenders sourced by TRE.

They fit very bad at first at the door (first pic). Did a little grinding at the bottom of the fender and a little hammering of the rear vertical fender mount got a little closer (second and on pics).

Still have a bit to go to get it closer, but my main issue now is at the top of the fender at the cowl. It fits well at the hood, but these two spots by the cowl are terrible and the gap at the top of the door is still pretty terrible.

Does anyone have any advice or tricks to close these gaps. I don't really see any way to get it closer based on the fact that its now binding at the bottom by the rocker and the top at the cowl. If anyone has any experience or is a pro, I would love to jump on a call for detailed advice.

Any advice on how to fix this? Lots of lead? Dynamite?

What were you hammering on? Why?

You need to lift the top near the vowel and WS and shim the bottom accordingly.

Dansk fenders are a close approximation of Porsche fenders. It's best to buy from Porsche but if you want to modify what you have, it will take metalwork. You can weld, welding rod to the edge of the fender to change the gap. Where it's tight, a relief needs to be cut, the metal pulled in and then stitched back together. All that and carefull shimming and placement to get the gaps correct. Unfortunately, it's not usually a bolt-on game.

Where do you live? Do you have your old fenders?? Would have been easier and cheaper to just weld light boxes onto your old fenders.

Circled area needs to be stretched so you can raise the two low spots. You will have to probably cut a slit out of the mounting flange ( where fender bolts to side of cowel) to relieve tension. Then carefully try to bend low spots upwards. Door cowel can be shimmed or hammered/ carefully bent if needed. Take your time.

If you still have your short hood fenders that fit, I’d just cut the light boxes off the long hood dansk fenders and weld them onto your original fenders and then sell the dansk fenders for scrap- someone will buy them for repairs or patching.

This is why I chose to weld on the light boxes rather than replacing the whole fender: hand built 50 year old cars generally won’t play nice with new parts.

That said, metal can be worked: a hammer and dolly and a torch will do wonders… it just takes a bit more time.

The Porsche reproduction fenders are significantly better than Dansk. Mine fit like they were built for the car even though there’s a ~ 50 year gap. Dansk fenders aren’t a bolt on replacement.
