Inner and Outer shift coupler boot fitment
Hi,
Do the inner and outer shift coupler boots fit together in some way, or just kind of push against each other? The outer boot is tight around the tunnel flange, but the inner seems to just flop around. Do people even bother with the inner boot? Thanks, Scotthttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687070016.jpg |
I used a cable tie to hold the inner in place, the boot fits over the round section in your picture

Is there a secret method to make that happen, or is do I just need smaller hands? |
You just need a little soap to use as lube and it will go right on. Soap then dries allowing a tight fit. Parts catalog does not show a clamp last I looked.

That’s a clean tunnel.
I recently replaced all bushings and there was neither an inner or outer boot (PO replaced coupler) but a zip tie that once held them together was laying in there. I didn’t bother to put a new inner boot on. To me I think the outer is more important, surprising amount of air, plus dirt and maybe even exhaust that comes through that opening, also another pathway for seasonal critters. If boots are real stiff, warm up the rubber with a hairdryer or soak in hot water to make inner boot more pliable and use soap or silicone paste. |
Thank you everyone, I'll give the soap+heat trick a go.

Get the bottom edge on first, then use right-angle needle nose pliers, or hook, or similar curved tool to pull the side and top of the boot over the section. I didn't have any trouble with that, and I have large hands.

Thanks for all your advice. Some warm, soapy water and a bit of light pliers action did the trick.

Zip/cable tie that thing before it slips off again or you'll be doing it all over again ;)
