Helpful Hint: Searching for info, image, parts on these forums

Thought I share some tips on how I search for info on these forums --- it has saved me loads and loads of time clicking through the pages and pages and pages of posts, and scrolling/scanning text for answers.

There's so much information that the community has provided here. The answer is most likely there, just need to find it. Search engines are great for this.

My approach...

1. Start w your favorite search engine. For me it is almost always google
2. In the search bar type "Pelican Parts Technical Forum: < insert your question here > ; for example, my recent search was "Pelican Parts Technical Forum: 915 transmission, remove fill plug"
3. From there, the search engine returns top results from PPTF. Google does a great job of understanding the Q and context. For my example, see the screenshot below, I found my answer in the third result returned.
4. If you want see images, or parts, or videos, then you can filter the results using the buttons at top of search engine page --- circled in red.

This is a huge time saver. No more clicking, scrolling, and scanning pages of results and posts.

Give it a try. I hope this saves you all loads of time as well.

Thanks for the reminder. I know that the Google, etc. search engines are better at finding stuff in this forum than the in-forum search function, but I keep clicking the search window here first. Old habits...

Custom Google search link

Might be interested in the tool created here

I think you can use the link in the top of the page, then bookmark it. I had problems copying the link to here, as that method, wanted to add a smiie to the link

This one works very well. I saved it to my Home Screen on my phone and use it like any other app.

That's the ticket --- jackpot! This is what I described but coded into google! Wonder why this is not an app or widget here on PPTF?

I'm glad that custom search engine is still useful.

I used to search with the Google command line options but found that the indexing and results seem better with the custom search engine.

For a little more advanced search, try Google Advanced Search; I've been using this for years. Not only can you easily search words, phrases and words not to include, you can plug in the specific site you want to search (in the example below, I'm searching the Porsche 911 Technical Forum).
