What Temperature?

What is the normal operating temperature for a 1973 911 T with a 2.7 RS converted engine?

I took my car for a spin yesterday and the highest it got was around 220 degrees. Does this sound normal for a 75 degree day?

Bill

It sounds like you're right on the money for a 2.7RS. 240 is where I would get really worried and I would pull over if it got any higher than that.

Do you have a front mounted cooler?

If you have a front mounted radiator oil cooler, 220 sounds a little warm for "normal" public road driving. If you have no front cooler at all, it sounds about right.

Thanks guys. I don't have a front mounted oil cooler. I am curious as to what temp the car would run at on a hot day...

I think Bruce Anderson's book says oil temp will rise 15 F for each 10 F of increased ambient temperature, assuming the cooling system is maxed out.

So your car running in 95F would see 250F. Damn hot for street driving!

But there is nothing like a real-world test to find out.
