What did i do wrong?!
Please don’t roast me! I took the car apart for paint, now when I put the suspension back together, the drivers side is set back about 1.5 inches.. I don’t understand what i could’ve done wrong?!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1691036493.jpg

Show it with the wheel off, and closer.
|
I have new brakes and front sway bar coming, so it’ll be apart again but not sure how it could be off so much.

Lots of caster, maybe, but the top of the shock mount would have to be pushed waaaaaaay forward for that much.
|
Think you need to show the strut mount in the trunk to see the position. Agree, could be a "simple" caster issue. It looks pretty far forward in relation to the strut housing in the wheel well.
|
Did you remove the strut mount for paint?
Did you replace the front pan? I just dealt with this on a car last week but the wheel was too far forward. The last person to assemble the front suspension didn’t have the control arms/bushings pushed all the way into their housings |
I feel like someone else did this exact same thing just recently. The thread should be out there....
Edit: I don't think it's caster, you'd need something like ten inches of caster to get that much movement at the hub! Edit again: I can't find the thread but I'm pretty sure the other guy had an issue with the control arm bushings or mounting points of the control arm. |
Loosen the strut mounts and put car on the ground. Check strut make sure it’s straight they do get bent believe it or not. What’s the car history?
|
Flare is too far forward.
|
I believe this is correct.

Cant be, it was fine before i took it apart. Ill disassemble and start over. |
Can you snap a photo of the control arm from underneath, showing the mounting points and full shape of the arm?
|
Any photos of it before it was taken apart? Unless its the angle of the photo, there doesn't seem to be enough space between the flare and the turn signal.

Could be the angle of the pic. @jugar23 if only the driver side is skewed you should be able to measure the distance from the reflector to the wheel opening on both sides and see if they are significantly different from one side to the other.
|
take a picture if you can from the bottom cross section so we can see it better to help you.i doubt is the body-fender
problem.. Ivan oh ya once you figure this out i would change the rotors;-) |
Maybe a little crazy, but could they have sent you back the wrong fender after paint? There is a lot that looks weird about that fender in the photo.

Is the fender fully mounted? Looks like its sagging towards the front end of the car.
|
Maybe post a before pic so we can see how the fenders lined up.

Please don’t say, that now I’m paranoid!😂 its been such a long process that would suck lolhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1691088683.jpg Thanks everyone for the input! Im hopeful its the bushings, ill get it in the air and get some better pictures. Ill just stare at the back until then😂 |
Are the fronts fiberglass?
|
nice look at your 911`s rear looks great...
Ivan |
Did they not cover anything when they painted it? I mean it looks like they painted the muffler, shocks etc..? And, they should have mocked up the rear muffler with the rear bumper and notched it for the tips before spraying.
|
I'd get under there and start measuring the position of the passenger side ball joint compared to some of the control points and then take those numbers and compare it to the same measurements on the driver's side. That will tell you how far out you are.
I guess the real interesting measurement would be from the back of the A-arm where it is welded to the tube, over to the control point marked as "C". http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1691151133.jpg If there is a difference between the 2 sides it should be pretty apparent where the difference is. For reference... https://forums.pelicanparts.com/uplo...1349642764.jpg https://forums.pelicanparts.com/uplo...1349642697.jpg |
Did OP ever find out what the issue was?
|
They were welded wrong and just re did them. My twist of an RSR is getting close to the finish line now. I am the tinkering phases of making my own carbon parts for interior/exterior.
Dropped a fresh3.6/PMO’s/ with electromotive HPV-1 and paired it up with a built 915. Who makes a “cleaned up” version of the engine wire harness? All i really need is lights, tach and alternator correct? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736238612.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736238612.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736238612.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736239129.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736239129.jpg |
Something doesn't seem right on that fender.. show pics of the other side and front end.
Looks like a 914 wide body kit imo. Ahh... it's solved then. Nice car. |
Looks good. Pretty nice car you built.
