Your 911's will they be dirty as hell in the back, driving a dry summerday?

I wash my 930 everytime (!) I taken it for a ride, mine will be totally black in the rear, guess itīs going little rich but anyway, are it the same for you guys?

I understand its some kind of vaccumtunnel behind the car but I think its only mine that be dirty as hell..... How is it for you that dont have any wing?

Itīs sucks to wash it everytime I driven it.

The pic shows some rubber also but you now what I mean..

I posted about this a few months ago about mysterious black dust on my 80SC. I really don't notice it until I touch it with my finger or rub against it. It can get my work pants dirty in a hurry. I was wondering what it was? Is it a sign that my car is running rich and soot is coming out of the tail pipe? I just use a Calofornia duster everyday before I take her out and that takes care of the black dust.

Nope, the flanks of the 911 grab dust and dirt like a magnet. When I wash my car I rinse this area with the hose thoroughly and then squeeze two healthy doses of suds on the area before I touch it with my cleaning sponge. I flip the sponge immediately and rinse it.

That area loves to get dirty. I don't think it has anything to do with exhaust tip location, wings or the like.

Could be brake dust. Some pads do this more than others.

Stop driving in reverse. JK

No problems over here, is it the same thing on both sides?

Yep...I think that is officially the dirtiest area on a 911's paintwork.

I always thought it was particles of other cars on the road being sucked off as I zoom by...

You think that's dirty? You ought to see my car when I pull it in Feb and there's four inches of slush, salt, and dirt on the road. Black car turns thirty percent white. I don't even try and clean it until May.
Picture was after a clean road day - well sort of clean.

I really think mine is brake dust. But for some reason, it is all on the back of the car and the rear fenders........ It is not oily at all, just really fine dust.

My car hardly burns any oil

In all seriousness, mine is a mixture of oil, with a dusting of brake dust and road debris (dirt, dust, bugs, etc...).

Seems like the only thing you are missing in CA is a good load of salt!

i always thought it was more of a problem with flares, especially the turbo size. I'm just guessing, but maybe its from the airflow around the car...maybe the flares make a swirling effect in the airflow

My Carrera used to do this. I think it was tire rubber, but I wasn't experiencing unusual wear.

My other 911s don't do it near as much. They have less tire on the rear.

I think it is the fat tire cars that do this the most, and especially visible on white paint like yours.

If your tire wear is normal I wouldn't worry about it.

Well, I got fat tires on mine 255's. It all sounds like a Porsche thing

I think they all do it... I notice it more on my 2.7 than on the Carrera.

I had a '77 Corvette and it had the same problem. The rest of the car would be clean but the rear area behind the wheels would be covered in black dust.

I hear that backdating to early fenders fixes this problem. ;-}

my c2 turbo does this as well, getting very fine dust on everything behind the rear wheels...it is present but not obvious until you rub your finger across the rear panel, even after only 50 miles...
