odd idle
ok...fire the car up first thing in the morning, starts right up, sits at about 1K, then climbs to 1.8K. After a few blocks it goes back to 1K and everything is fine.
When I go back out to the car at the end of the work day, it fires right up sitting at about 1K. It then never really goes up to 1.8, but after a few blocks it will swing between 200 and about 1800, sometimes dying on the downward swing. If I give it gas it will drive OK and I can make it idle a bit higher with the loud pedal, but at a stoplight with my foot off the pedal it does the swing. After it warms up it idles perfectly at 1K. So it seems like the "sorta cold" idle is an issue. I haven't seen these symptoms described in other cold start posts. Does this sound like an obvious culprit? On a maybe related note, I think my fuel pump is buzzing louder these days... |

Even 1k rpm sounds kinda high for an idle to me, Todd.

I thought 900-950 was the target, so it doesn't seem too far off. I know 10K miles ago when the valves were adjusted the CIS fuel pressures were adjusted to fix a rough cold start. Maybe that is the issue again.
Maybe I'll try adjusting the idle down a hair when it's warm and see if that has any effect when it's cold. |
