Ignition won’t crank (1972)

Hi all, I just had my ignition tumbler rekeyed. When I removed it it was working it just was a bit sticky sometimes when turning the key
Well I’ve put it back into the car but it just won’t crank. I can hear the fuel pump etc and all the necessary lights are blinking. I initially thought my batteries were low so i had swapped in batteries from my other car but no luck.

Is my ignition switch bust or is there an easier fix?
I checked all the wiring and grounds too.

Assuming it’s assembled correctly Remove switch turn the female cross with a flat screw driver as you check for continuity across poles.

Ugh, absolute electrical novice here. How would I got about doing that?
I’ve preemptively ordered a replacement ignition switch as well hoping I can just swap it out if need be

If you have removed the ignition switch to rekey then you also disturbed the the wiring and the connections to the ignition switch. More than likely you have disconnected the wire between the ignition switch and the starter solenoid. Reseat each of the connections to the ignition switch. It would be advantageous to have the schematic to verify the wiring to the ignition switch. It would be a real fluke to have the starter circuit fail at the same time you worked on rekeying. Did you do the rekeying yourself or was it professionally done?

It's a pretty rudimentary design, super easy to hot wire, per say. My money on the above, a wire or two might not be plugged back in.

I had it professionally done by Sierra Madre collection’s key service. I’ll have to check once the replacement piece arrived. It’s very possible that some of the wiring came loose when it got put back together…. Will update this thread once I get around to it.

Push in the six pin male connector for the ignition wiring under the dash to make sure it is fully connected. Farthest to the right.

Yep I checked and rechecked the pins multiple times already.

OK, I replaced the ignition switch but no luck. I checked the ground straps and no luck either.
I can hear the engine pump running so my last bet is checking if the solenoid in the starter is stuck. Will try to have someone turn the ignition as I whack it with a mallet. Wish me luck…

I would suggest testing the starter in place by getting a jumper wire and run 12 volts from the battery lead on the starter to the solenoid + input on the starter. If the solenoid energizes and closes it’s contacts the starter should turn the engine over. This way you will know is the issue in the starter or the wiring to the starter.

Yes that would be the ideal nest step as well!
