Flag Mirror Wiring

Hi guys!

I have an '86 Euro Carrera. I'm trying to replace my old power mirrors and motors. I am changing from the 3 pin mounted mirror type to the later single circular retainer type.

My question is concerning the wiring (of the mirror motor, not the harness from the door).

My '86 DS mirror is coded (looking clockwise from the back of the round white plug where the wires enter from the motor) 1: White 2: Yellow/Brown stripes 3: Brown 4: Brown (3&4 heated mirror) 5: Black 6: Blue.

I'm not exactly sure what year the new mirrors are from, but I'm guessing '87~'89 (The sticker on the back has "Entstort" #944-731-029-01).

The wires to the back of the plug for the new motor is 1: Brown 2: Brown (1&2 heated mirror) 3: Black/Brown? trace 4: Black 5: White/Brown trace 6: White.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the newer mirror motor(s)? Can I just change the pin (wire) position in the plug to suit the harness from the door or is there more to it than that?

I've done a search for previous posts on the subject, but I haven't found one which answers the question about which wires need to be relocated or any wire colour codes that correspond to the wires on my new mirrors.

Hope someone has some ideas.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Chris

Hmm... No takers???

I don't know if this helps. On my '86, the wires to the plug coming from the door (this time viewed looking at the pin end/front of the plug in a clockwise direction) are #1: White (x2) 2: Brown (x2) 3: Brown 4: Grey/green 5: Black 6: Blue (x2).

The piece of the door harness still attached to the new mirror (when viewed the same way as above) is #1: Brown (x2) 2: Grey/green 3: Green (x1) & White/green (x1) 4: Black 5: White/brown 6: White/green (x2).

Hope someone can give me some tips so that I don't do any damage...

Well... I seem to be corresponding with myself...

But, just in case anyone is following this, I realised that the part number I quoted in my first post was incorrect. I couldn't quite make out one of the numbers. I thought it was a "9", but it turns out it's a "7". So the part number of the newer motor is: (944-731-027-01).

The listing in our host's catalogue shows it to be for '87~'89 models as suspected.

From all of the search results that I've come up with so far, it appears that the wiring diagrams listed for '87~'89 models are wrong. I have not found one that even comes close to showing the colour codes that I have. In fact, most of them show the same wiring that I have on my '86 which I know for a fact is different.

Anyway, I shall persevere. If anyone has any other input, I'd sure like to hear it.

Thanks!

Chris

Hi Chris,

That wiring sequence and color seems to be a left side mirror (1984-1985). I will try to send you the outside mirror drive motor wire colors for 1985-1986 and 1986-1989.

Kees.

Hi Kees!

Thanks a lot for your replies. I'm not alone after all!

Looks like you're right about the '84~'85 model. That wiring does seem to be the same as on the new mirror's plug (except that on my mirror there is a black wire #3 running from one of the motors to the plug instead of a white as shown in the diagram [which changes to a black on the door side of the plug anyway]. Strangely though shouldn't the earlier model be using the earlier single motor with the 3 pin mirror fastener? (These newer one's have two identical small motors fixed close together and the mirror fastener is a large round plastic collar attached to the back of the mirror).

The diagram you posted for the '86~'89 model looks to be the same as on my car, but mine has the earlier style mirrors. So, I'm still at a loss as to how to wire these mirrors up to my original door wiring. (Since the part number of the newer mirror corresponds to an '87~'89 model, I would have thought that the wiring diagram should be different from the '86 model).

I guess I just need some more time to sit down and trace through both of the diagrams and see how (or if..) they can be matched up. I need some time though. I'm going cross-eyed at the moment...

Anyway, I'll battle on!

BTW, how's the weather over there? I visited Amsterdam and Duiven during winter about 3 or 4 years ago. Nice place and nice people, but it was bitterly cold near the canals at night...

Cheers mate & thanks again!

Chris

Well I’m in this same boat. Cars an 87 and none of the colors from the door to the weather pack connector in the mirror correspond to any of the colors in the diagrams.
