Just bought my second 911, and yes I'm keeping both
![]() The cab needs a new convert. top badly, does anyone know how much it should cost ( I hear it's 1500) or if they have had any luck buying them on-line? I'm assuming all tops are not created equal. Is one brand better than another? Thanks, 87 911 cab 77s 3.0/3.2 |

There are quite a number of sources for the top if you intend to do it yourself or take it to a top shop. There are horror stories about fit from different sources so be careful and do not go on price alone...I would recommend www.worlduph.com (World Upholstery) and use only the German canvas. The top alone will be in the $700 range and installation will vary, and not be for the faint of heart. If you search the archives here you will find plenty of discussion about replacing the top - a few members including myself that did the work themselves and were pleased with the outcome. On the other hand you can find a shop that can provide references of past installations and you can just supply the materials (probably headliner installed as well). You should be able to easily stay under the $1500 you were thinking it would cost.
Good luck,

Sorry for the previous email. The German top with labor is $750. The best price so far. You can not do the job yourself. It's a lot of glueing and stapling.

I have not go there yet. I am thinking about going this week. The shop is referred by a member on this board. I think he owns a red cab with expensive stereo.

Upgrade to the later 1-piece model. Looks slick! But, be aware of the blind spot...I ended up buying one pano-mirror.

I called and he quoted me 800.00 for the complete top and installation. If he does a good job for you let me know, I'd drive down to have it done.

I paid (I think) $1200.00 for time. Sub-1K is cheap! Good luck.
Make sure you update us on quality and workmanship after the job. I might use him next time! |

The shop in El Segundo, CA quoted $1500. They specialized in 356s.

Just got my 911 back with new interior and German convertible top. $850 for the top and $750 for the interior. Total $1,600. Will post pictures soon. I would recommend Rich&Famous Auto Tops.

That looks great and at that price, very hard to beat. It's too bad (or perhaps very lucky) that I didn't buy the cab, ran a carfax report and found it had been salvaged in Canada back in 87. No wonder it was such a good deal.
