Considering a 2007 c2s with 97,000 miles
Hi all, I’m looking at a 2007 c2 with 97,000 miles. Assuming it has been well maintained. Are there any major issues with a 2007 manual c2s I should look out for? Thank you!!

Porschedoc05, since this forum's focused on air-cooled 911s built before 1990, you might be better off asking for advice on a water-cooled 911 forum. That said, it's my understanding that the 2007 911 (a 997.1) still had an engine susceptible to IMS failure issues (this was cleared up with the introduction of the 997.2 with direct fuel injection in 2009) -- SO, since I don't have enough knowledge/experience with this particular issue (other than to know that fixing a failed IMS is $$$), suggest you independently research this issue, identify whether any of the "solutions" to this issue have been applied by a previous owner, and otherwise assess the risk associated with this issue

Cylinder bore scoring is also another "critical" failure that can occur with the 997's. I'd suggest joining/browsing Rennlist forum as they have a much higher member participation for the water cooled cars.
I'm a past owner of an '06 S 6sp and a current '11 S PDK owner. I've been a Rennlist member for about 6 years.

The main thing for 997.1 is bore scoring. IMS on 06+ cars is generally fine unless tracked heavily. Also would recommend checking for a water pump service. Those m9x motors tend to go through water pumps every 60-80k miles it seems.
I'd also recommend rennlist for watercooled stuff. Lots of good info over there from my 7.1 c4s days. |
