G-model front skid plate

I wonder if someone has made their own version of aftermarket skid plate for the front of the G-model 911 AND could share some pictures ?

Here’s an aftermarket one:

Cheers

I was planning to make my own, then Rennline released theirs and saved me the time. If you search a little bit you can find pictures of the Tuthill skid plates. They make two versions, tarmac and Safari. Also there was a forum member in New Zealand (I think) who sold a few of his design in the classifieds.

While the skid plate I received has the same 4 hole attachment plan, it differs from stock photo shown by OP.

Easy installation! I bolted mine up with car on the floor, no lifts, no problems! Source your favorite piece of cardboard to slide it around on, remove the 2 aforementioned front bolts and get the plate loosely attached. Move to the rear.....I did one cross member bolt at a time. Align skid plate to your liking, torque your hardware to spec. Done!!

●Front is secured with L & R [outer front] control arm bolts.

●Rear is secured with L & R cross member bolts.

Never knew how much I needed a skid plate till now. Multiple Coffee Runs , many were day after naughty storms. Lots of debri!! I heard every lil piece of tree as it made contact underneath. Yet, the skid plate still looks fresh!

I had reservations concerning ease of front end servicing with plate installed. They disolved after installing, utilizing and realizing...... the benefits override a few minutes of removal time before working up front.

Installed one on my 75. FYI you need to clearance the skid plate where the grease nipples on the Elephant Racing control arm bushings hang down if you use those. You also lose front tow hook, which isn't a big deal for lowered or raised cars. Edit, whoops totally wrong on the tow hooks. Wait where are my tow hooks :-/

Dimensional Drawing???

Could someone provide a dimensional drawing or schematic with bends and angles? I would send to Send-Cut-Send and get made out of whatever I wanted.

I strongly recommend that you buy the Rennline to start with, then modify it as you like. Starting from scratch will take much longer.

These do not work if you have a front condenser, correct?

According to Rennline.

Product Details
Compatible with 1978 - 1989 911/930 or earlier cars with the later aluminum cross member.
Will not work on cars with front A/C condenser.

Perhaps cut away the front part of the skid plate to make it fit with front C condenser ?

I’m away from home or I would measure mine for you. It’s about 1/8”.

JMAN Performance also offers up a skid plate. I think he provides some of the skid plates for the Rothsport crew that races the NORA down in Baja.

i have 2 steel hoops on the front of my car ( not like the ones shown above ) on my 78 , they seem to be taking the brunt of any contact, are these removed during installation ? , covered ? or by passed like in the above pic ?

thanks

I think people above are trying to work around the somewhat steep price tag plus shipping of basically a sheet of steel. dont blame em really
