1980 911SC Squeal Shifting into Gear 915 Trans
Hi,
My 1980 911sc with 72k miles developed a squeal when shifting into any gear while upshifting. Sometimes it won’t stop as I drive until I disengage the clutch. If I rev-match when shifting into gear, it is greatly reduced, is temporary or doesn’t occur at all. Is this a clutch issue or a guide tube/throwout bearing issue? Should I try lubing the guide tube / throwout bearing from the inspection hole, or should I expect to completely pull the transmission and install a new clutch?

Might want to drain the oil and remove the 4 stud plate on the center housing and see if the guide fork is loose.

Your description sounds like throw-out bearing noise. However, do what John recommended first, as that's easier to do.
