Chris and I tore this car apart at his shop. I believe this was a R Gruppe car another client bought at auction that needs some mechanical love. It is a short wheelbase car. That's all I know.
|
Pretty much like mine but the bumper is different. Pretty much the same color which is why I was curious.
|
Dash pad when in. Then the front glass. All of the glass is in with all new Porsche rubber. I've fought the glass vs other manufacturer seals and lost too many times.
My hands hurt from digging out 50 yo rubber from very tiny places were the new seals reside. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1700959357.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1700959357.jpg This would have never happened without Chris and Ed Mayo's help. I am very lucky to have had all of their many years of wisdom an arm's length away. Off to dry ice blasting.......... |
To save myself some time I hired Subzero (Jonathan) to clean the inner fenders and belly of the car. He picked the car up on Monday and say's he will be finished by Friday.

Did you know that 50 years of oil mixed with dirt+road grime+water = a compound that will plug pin holes in your oil tank.
I'm going to have to drain the tank and have it welded. Something about this 72 tank (copper over steel) that just looks cool. A new tank won't have this patina and they cost $1,300. Ouch. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1701475692.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1701475692.jpg |
Can you silver-solder it yourself? (you know I like DIY)
|
Chris....
I won't try this. I'll have my friend Rick do the welding. He's a welding rock star and I am good and terrible. The tank is too valuable for the likes of me. |
My temporary patch....

Thank you. Spent last night fighting a front bumper seal I bought at Stoddard. I've got 2/3 of it beaten into submission. I'll tackle the remaining tonight after work. I also worked on the rear interior panels a bit. |
PROGRESS:
Still a lot of stuff to do. Ride height being just one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1702908491.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1702908491.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1702908491.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1702908491.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1702908491.jpg |

LOL.... great reference Chris. Haven't seen that used frequently.

Car looks fantastic, great job. I dig the somewhat subtle old school lettering on the tires, and the graphics. I'm usually not keen on that (not that my opinion means jack) but that looks great, same with wheels. I had a version of those exhaust tips on an old muffler I had way back when, found them on summit racing. I think singer has their unobtanium version as well. I like to think they copied me from waay back, lol, yeah ok.
Is this an mfi car, I ask because it looks like you have a different fuel pump, or is that something else like another fuel filter? Oh, and I hate your garage. ;) |
tobluforu,
Thank you. I think you are seeing the fuel filter for the Weber Carbs underneath. But I am currently considering an MFI set up for this rebuilt 2.7 I currently have. I also love these exhaust tips and have been wanting to use them on some type of build for a while. These are modified Borla tips that I welded to the Dansk muffler I am using (prior to ceramic coating of the muffler). I think Singer picks out the best possible stuff to incorporate into their reimagined vision. |
Congratulations on building a great 72. It has to be a good feeling to look at all the work that's been done knowing you have had your hands on all of it.I just happen to be building a 72 911 myself that I am just finished the metal.and bodywork and have 90% ready for paint but enough about what I am doing I wanted to chime in to say how much I like your 72 great job.
