Mystery Wires Under Dash 1981 SC
I just picked up a 1981 Targa light project which had an alpine stereo / amp hack install job back about a decade ago. I removed it all and figured out most of the wires but I have two pics of mystery wires under the dash.
In the first picture the location is right behind the radio. I think the brown with white stripe wire, circled with the blue highlighter I drew on the pic, goes to the (missing) glovebox door switch and the black wire with the red highlighted circle one I drew I have no idea what that is or the connector type. Never seen such a connector before. In the second pic, the location is under the dash next to the passenger door footwell I have no idea what these cut and taped wires go or do (highlighted in purple). Thanks Sean ![]() ![]() |

Red circle is for a bulb - could be the ashtray light or the HVAC switch fan light

Can’t see the colors of the wires in 2nd picture but if that’s solid Purple it could be + Right Rear speaker wire and Gray would be + Rt. Front probably part of the aftermarket set up they did any speakers with that still exist. Blue/Wht would amp remote switch. You say it was a hack job on the stereo so no telling where the - Neg. speaker wires are at.

Ok figured some of it out, thanks for everyones help. The brown with white strip is the glovebox light switch, the red circled one is supposed to have a bulb in it for the HVAC light and i'll check those right side wires tonight to see if they are audio ones.
