Wheel adapters with 16" fuchs.
Has anyone successfully used wheel adapters with 16" fuchs?
I have a set of Techart wheel adapters, 18mm for the back and 15mm for the fromt, to fill out the wheel arches of the SC when using the standard 16" fuchs. But they don't fit - darn. When I fit them up the studs and wheel lugs from the wheel hub, both front and back, hit the back of the fuchs wheel. I was quite keen to take off the heavy 17" cup replicas I have and go back to 16" fuchs for lightness sake, but I don't like the anemic look of the spare room between the tires and the wheel arch. |

Do you have a picture of the Techart adapters? I can't visualize why they don't work.
I've got 25mm adapters on the rear of my car with the stock 16x7, and it all works fine.

Hi Arne, I don't have any with it bolted to the hub. But the stud sticks about 2mm out the end of the lug nut.
Going by the paint scratched on the back of the wheel the nut and the stud are both contacting the wheel. ![]() |

Shorter studs for the hub would be one solution. A PIA to change them out though.

Actually I was so dissapointed (highly pissed off) that I felt like trimming them up with the angle grinder ![]() |

Mine look almost identical, except for being thicker. Of course, since they are thicker, the studs don't protrude as far.
I sure would have thought there was more room between the lug pads on the Fuchs than that.

Here's the best shot I have of mine, enlarged a bit to show detail. If you look closely, you can see that the lug nuts don't protrude at all, and the studs only a little.
It seems apparent that adapters need to be thicker than 18mm to use with Fuchs. How much thicker I'm not certain, but my 25mm work fine. ![]()

Mine do work well, 25mm on the rear is a good fit with the 16x7.

Looking good there Arne.
This is how I usually have the car with the 17" cup fakes on it. I like them but the rims plus a big tire is a lot of rotating mass for a SC to spin up. ![]() |

I agree, the extra mass of the 17" is not ideal. I was looking into moving to 17", decided against it for several reasons, weight was a big one. Paid to have my original Fuchs re-anodized instead, and bought a nice set of new 16" tires for them. I'm convinced that was the correct choice for my uses.

I describe my 17" wheels as my road wheels, and my 16" ones as my track wheels. That's track if I actually went to the track.

when I had the 6+7x16 on my SC, I used spacers like this:
a) front 7mm plates b) rear 22mm plates (DRM-type like your 18mm) now I have 7+8x16 and have: a) front no spacer b) rear 7mm plate car is a hint lower than Euro stance and all was/is perfect, no rolled fender lips. ![]()

Looks good Flo. I like that sure footed looking stance the car has.
I'm trying to use the 6 + 7 set, because I already have them and they are in great condition. But those 7 + 8 fuchs are nice. Bis spater, Bill. |

I know smaller spacers are generally not adapters with new studs. I would bet your cavities on the backside of the Fuchs are not deep enough for the protruding lug nut. I ran into a similar problem with my Minilites, because they do not have cavities on the backside.
I had the same setup are Arne before moving to Minilites. They worked great and really gave the 7's a nice look in the rear.

No problem
I used Pelican's HR-5695716 (28mm) adapters on my '88 Targa rears with 7" Fuchs, no problem, worked great.

I'm using H&R hubcentric adapters 1 1/4" on the rear. Here's the before and after.

should be a porsche part number if they are real. If i were you id put in longer studs and use spacers. much safer than those thin adapters anyway. you can get factory 944 spacers fairly cheap and easy i think they are 22mm

Yes it does seem my spacers are too thin and the stud and nut stick out to far. Yup, got the porsche part number. I think I will do the 66mm stud idea (remove my stock 50mm) and use my wheel adapters as spacers (with the adapters studs pushed out). Plus with the steel lug nuts I have flexibility in regard to how thick or thin, with or without spacers, I can have. That looks good Cattler.
