Porsche Crest Looking for wheel spacer guidance...'83 Targa

As the new owner of a 1983 Targa I am looking to fill out the rear wheel well a little with spacers. The existing tires are 225 x 16 on Fuchs 7. The front wheels are Fuchs 6 with 205 x 16 and I might space the a little too. Just curious as to whether 1" is too much on the back and open to suggestions to front spacers if any.

Also, i am not crazy about the bolt on spacers and would just get spacers requiring longer studs.......

Thanks.

1" is fine.. More will fit as well.

You should want some quality, hubcentric adaptors if going that large. Otherwise, you will need to replace the studs with longer ones too. The other issue with longer studs is, well, some are not threaded all the way down, so when you remove the spacer, you can't actually get the lug bolts to seat on the wheel. Also, with longer studs, you may need a super deep socket to install the lug bolts.

Good adaptors come with their own hardware for install.

Thanks for the information and help. I will look for spacers with new studs. Any suggestions for the front wheels? Anybody?

here's a list with all available Fuchs sizes
it nicely shows the off-sets and backspacings, so it might be helpful

I have late offset wheels on my 79 SC. Here is my info, including the spacers I ended up with.
Quote:
My car is about 1/4 inch "off center". With the 2" spacers the driver's rear tire protrudes 0.5" outside the flare, while the passenger's side is exactly even. There is very slight rubbing on the driver's side which occurs when cornering to the right at high speed, or cornering right while going over bumps.

I am going to drop down to 1.5" spacers in the rear. That should move the driver's rear side to the position the passenger side is at now, which is safe.

Recap - With 964 (late offset, et52.3) 6+8x16 wheels I will be running 1" front and 1.5" rear spacers on my SC.
Front - 964.382.112.01 6Jx16-ET52.3 w/ P205/55/R16 89V tires
Rear - 964.362.116.01 8JX16-ET52.3 w/ P225/50/R16 91V tires

Thumbs up

Nineball....great visual and very helpful Where did you get your spacers? Did you get the bolt ons or ones requiring longer studs in a separate purchase?

well, i bought a set of 23mm spacers on here and the seller shipped me 63-64mm spacers and basically told me to pound salt when i tried to return them. i ended up trading them for a set of h&r spacers a local friend had sitting on the shelf. mine bolt on with their own studs already there. i prefer this to the longer stud version, not based on anything scientific but just my own thoughts. it would seem there would be less stress on all of them in the end.

On the front its a bit harder since there is less room. You might find some small adapter (say 20mm or less) or you could run a 1/4" spacer. iirc, once you go beyond about 1/4", you run out of thread engagement for the lug nut.

Ok so I ordered 25 mm spacers for the rear and will look at the front later. Thanks for all the good info and pictures.

I am driving my recently acquired first porsche in the form of an '83 guards red targa and can't seem to let it go slow? Its not my fault officer! Is that a common problem with 911's? Its just a fun car with a go-kart feel. It even has nice curves for waxing.

I want to clean the back side of my rear reflector lense.....how do I get that thing off? It has some darkening on the back side and I hope it only needs elbow grease.

Thinking of doing the H&R 28mm stud in spacers for my 81 SC in the rear. How about the front? What size spacer are people running on the front?
